COPPERMAN

While walking through San Francisco's Union Square recently I ran into Copperman. He is a street entertainer, a young actor in copper paint from head to toe, who sits motionless as people walk by on the busy street. Many stop, awe-struck to see this statue-like man. You cannot even see him breathing. People leave contributions in his copper pot in appreciation for this fine "performance".

Copperman sits for 25 minutes at a time and then takes a break. During the break he is quite animated and eagerly shares his story with his audience. He told us that it actually strains every muscle in his body trying to keep still for so long. As the clock slowly ticks, time becomes agonizing as his muscles cry out in pain, wanting the relief of moving about. In fact, about ten minutes into the "gig" you can see perspiration beads starting to streak down his face, marring the unusual make-up. The streaking becomes more noticeable and at the end of the 25 minute routine, Copperman explodes off his seat and looks as if he is ready to collapse with exhaustion. Every day is like running a marathon he said. The strain on the body from sitting still, and the mental exhaustion that goes with it, are incredible. This is not a fun job.

I have met many people who wished for the day when they could retire and "just do nothing". They dreamed of a life of complete leisure, not having to work for a living, nor having any responsibilities. Like Copperman, they contemplated a life without having to move about very much. But these people did not realize that having nothing to do can be fun for a few days, or even weeks, but after that the strain of inaction can be overpowering. Let us never have it as our goal to sit like Copperman. KEEP YOUR MIND, HEART AND SPIRIT MOVING! One of the greatest human cravings is the yearning to feel needed, useful, wanted. We must always contribute our unique talents to our families, our Marine Corps & Navy and the world around us. Let us all give freely of our God-given talents and bless others with those great gifts!

We got up to 88 degrees, and other than that it was nice. And then, about an hour ago, the wind burst alive and now it’s nasty. Lightning in the east, but not sure where it’s going. With this kind of wind and all the tornadoes around the midsection of the US yesterday and today, I hope the really bad stuff stays well away.

I’m glad you had some nice guests to enjoy and to show what y’all have to offer in the away of military history. I’ll bet they learned a lot from you!

Good evening, radu, and a Blesed Lord’s Day to you and yours.

Did you have good musuem day? Lots of visitors? Did you get the cannon polished? Did you have to wear shoes and socks, or is it flip flop weather yet?

Sun has been out all day and the view of the mountains all around from the 4th floor office was fantastic.

The lightning you see is the southern end of the storm system that’s wreaking havoc tonight. Fortunately for you, it’s moving slowly east. I’ve had Ryan Hall up since I got to sit down this evening and it’s been a rough day and night AGAIN from TX on up. :-(

The young man from Taiwan is here to go to school at the university a couple of miles from the museum. Apparently in history, they’re studying the War of 1812 and someone told him about the museum. He was surprised to find out that there are military museums in the US because he said they don’t bother to preserve military history in Taiwan or other Asian countries. He was very interested today and said he’ll come back again. My guess is he’ll come alone next time because his daughters are very young and really weren’t enjoying themselves.

A fella who’s been there a few times showed up today simply to buy two more museum t-shirts - - he lives 100 miles away! LOL He was wearing the shirt he’d bought for himself last time he visited. The two he bought today are for his grandsons.

Our first visitor was a fella who left Indiana EARLY this morning to drive down to check us out. He’s a military historian and author and found us on the internet, and decided to come down to see what we have.

Hey there, Kathy.

It was a good weekend but on the slow side. I just told luvie about it in post #25.

I did get the cannon shiny again but it was a LOT of work. I polished for a while but it was still tarnished. After about an hour break, I tackled it again and that time I managed to get rid of the last of the tarnish. I fretted about that darn cannon all week. LOL I was so afraid that having to wait a week, I wouldn’t be able to get it shiny again. He used a LOT of powder each time he fired it last weekend and it got HOT.

Flip flop weather this weekend! YAY! Mid 70s at the museum but low 80s down here. VERY windy too.

You had a gorgeous day up there today. The view of the mountains from the Lake Hood cam is stunning. They’re so pretty when there’s some snow and some bare ground.
Better for you since you’re right there and get the full effect of their size.

Orthodox Holy Week (which began Friday night) is totally about preparation...and even with those seventeeen services leading up to the midnight Pascha service one is never truly totally prepared for the greatest of all good news.

Sounds like you guys are picking up some really serious interest, and it’s only going to get better. And guess what? I shared the post about the spring opening the other day on FB, and now I’m one of the museum’s “Top Fans”. LOL! I’ll wear that as a badge of honor. :)

Things are getting really rough again tonight. At least yesterday, most of the bad stuff was in daytime when people could judge for themselves where they stood. Nighttime tornadoes are just the scariest! Steve is on Day 2 of coverage. He’s doing a great job. He has all kinds of scanners, a up-graded radar program and lots of sources from the chaser world. The only thing he can’t do, because of stupid YouTube rules, is show video footage someone else has taken. If he does, his channel gets hidden. Like being in FB jail only more serious. LOL!

I think the wind has calmed. I don’t hear things bumping around outside anymore. I’m going to watch one more show and then head out. I need to try to sleep. Last Sunday I was almost a zombie because I snuck in “just one more show”. Ugh! 🤣

What post about the last weekend did you share on FB that made you one of the museum’s “Top Fans”? I didn’t know they did such a thing but then since I never go to FB, I know nothing about it. LOL

I’m still watching Ryan’s stream. He’s much more informative because he actually knows weather.

It’s a horrible night. Tornados just keep dropping. One just dropped now. And yes, it’s worse when they hit at night because you can’t see them coming. Tonight’s seem to be hitting more populated areas and some towns have been hit several times.
Dang, another tornado watch has been issued for parts of TX. I hoped they were out of the woods by now.

Glad the wind has calmed down there at last. I wish it would here! LOL We still have at least two ore days of it. *sigh*

Good luck gong to sleep at a reasonable hour tonight. Catch ya tomorrow

A very pleasant good Sunday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country.

We're OK folks. Thankfully we didn't lose power. We were under a Tornado Warning for a few minutes last night. There were a lot of reports of tornadoes in our neck of the woods. Some damage was reported. Gizmo is still under the bed right now because it's still thundering and lightning out there.

How's everyone doing this morning?

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

Whew! I’m glad you posted. I was concerned you’d lost power during the storms earlier. I’ve been keeping up with what’s gone on and am glad you missed the nasty stuff that blew up just north of you.
Poor Gizmo. A loooooong rough night for the lil feller. At least the worst is past but it’s all moving very slowly. I hope the flooding doesn’t get bad. You’re under a flood watch and flash flood warning for a little while yet.

Man, I hope that ugly weather stays away from you, and all the populated areas.

Just having high winds here drives me crazy.

A Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours and stay safe!

No rest today...I’ve been working off and on since 9 this morning, but pleased with both the work and home projects completed.

Though it wasn’t a rest day, it sounds like it was a good one. Getting some projects completed is always a good thing.
Things going as well as they did at the office makes it a banner day. :-)

After I got home from the museum I got gas for the mower, then cut down several saplings that had no business growing where they were. It’s been a long day but a good one, and now the wind is dropping from the sails. Time to get the cat stuff done so I can crawl into bed and go into a coma. LOL
Sleep well and sleep late. Last chance for that for a few days.
