Chalk me up with those who aren't too sure about someone other than Jim deciding who stays and who goes. I say this, because it came as a bit of a shock to those of us in Puget Sound to find our local get-together was cancelled when our host was suddenly banned from FR a week before our scheduled hog roast. Rather a brutal way to throw the monkey wrench in chapter plans. Still don't know what he (our host) said, but can't imagine him saying anything offensive enough to be kicked off FreeRepublic. At the very least, our local officers should have been notified first.

anti-Semitism is indeed something we look at as part of the overall bigotry problem. We pull much that is reported to us, and find a few on our own. If you see it, report it. Note that sometimes we don’t always agree with the abuse reporter, but I would say that in the majority of cases we do. FReepers are smart people - and we depend a great deal on them.

I always go to "Latest Posts" first rather than articles, because that gets me to the "meat" first, what people are finding interesting or vital. Try that, and you'll skip the vanities.

The offensive material is posted in the user record. In many cases, there are long collections of that kind of thing. This gives an overall view, and adds weight to any decision to suspend or ban. Jim and John have the ability to restore posting privileges, and commonly do so, both at our request and that of others. Overall, we have made few mistakes, but you can bet we will make others, as any human being will.

You wouldn't believe how many black Freepers there are. And they're all thick-skinned, like any good Freeper should be!

Sometimes I agree, but - here is the problem. We can not cull out all objectionable posts on threads with hundreds of comments. Participants determine what stays up - period. If complaints run high - the thread goes.

Well put. One thing very new I have noticed, and it troubles me greatly, is the tendency to brutalize anyone who doesn't automatically run with the pack, and then turn around and hit the "abuse" button on them for the sole reason that they do not agree with what the poster has posted. In my four years of Freeping I have never seen this kind of behavior, and it is a sad commentary on the state of conservative debate. It is the liberals who try to silence others.

But there are some here who rush to hit "abuse" not because someone violated the guidelines, but rather simply because they don't like what the person is saying. That is nanny state mentality, and a disgrace to the good name "Free Republic." Hats off to all of you who work to keep things running here.

I think the increase in abuse hits may also be an outgrowth of the recent explosion of anti-religious
bigotry. Maybe it will die down and you folks can take a break once the rest of us argue down the bigots.
