I think I would agree about John XXIII, but I am unfamiliar with this claim. References??
I wouldn't bet a wooden nickel on that happening.
>>I find it totally bizarre that there is only room for one more painting and one more coffin in the Vatican..... how prophetic....<<
Is this a fact?
What is the source?
I'd like info before I believe this.
See 41 and 52, just commenting on what they mentioned. Boy, this thread is a blast from the past....
Even Jesus Himself knows not the hour. (and HE'S the one Who'll be coming back)
Prophecies are nice, they will alert. But they don't really predict a definite.
How does one conclude that Pope JPII is the next to last, when this list cites one more before "Peter the Roman"?
Ping!
RE: And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (Matthew 16:18)
If you look at the original text did Jesus mean to say to Peter that he was the 'Rock'? (Petros vs. Petra)
There are many questions regarding what Jesus said to Peter. Petra VS. Petros, Armaic VS. Greek, Protestant view VS. Catholic view etc...
If you perform a web search on Petra and Petros you'll find a wealth of information (and mis-information) on the subject. Was Peter designated by Christ to be the first pope or was Jesus saying you are, "You are Petros (masculine), and on this (the Revelation to Peter that Jesus was the Christ) Petra (feminine) I will build my Church.

There's nothing in the Bible that isn't controverted. But the number of commentators who consider "rock" to be a pun on Peter's name (which works in Greek and coincidentally in Latin when the gospel was translated) includes most of the Fathers of the Church and ancient commentators, as well as most modern commentators.
