Anyone else having problems STAYING logged in?
Posted on 11/01/2001 7:00:36 PM PST by my_pointy_head_is_sharp
Here's the problem. Whenever I go to another site, then come back to FR, I find that I am no longer logged in. This has been happening the past 2 days.
I've already emailed JR about it. He said to check my system's date and time; that if the date is wrong it might confuse my browser's cookie routines.
Date and time are fine. Everything else on my computer is OK, too. All of the settings are correct. I haven't changed a thing.
Does anyone else have this problem, or know what to do about it?

Immediately after posting this thread, I somehow found myself logged off again. I had to log in again to post this reply to myself. This is very perplexing.
Any ideas out there?

Everytime I want to do a self-search, I must log in again, which is a real PIA and something that I never had to do before. I did not change anything.

Have you upgraded to IE6? It blocks cookies by default, but, you can specify which sights can leave cookies. This is what I had to do.

I have been logged in for two years or so, except for when JimRob did the big upgrade. Took me a while to remember my password...

Try going to
THIS thread. You may find some help there after you wade through the chatter in the beginning.
I had this same problem for months until I changed the URL I access FR with. I was using the URL with the numbers and when I changed to www.freerepublic.com/perl/latest the problem of having to log in went away. What was weird was I could become logged in by just setting my preferences, not actually logging in. No one else was complaining except me.
Good luck!

The only time I ever have to re-log in is when I delete my temporary internet files and clear my history. I would guess that people using programs that do this automatically may have the same problem.

Its obvious to me that you are a target of the anti-logging cooks.
There is probably even someone living in one of your trees, have you checked?

Sounds like we're having the same problem. I think JohnRob may have changed something in the settings, because God knows I haven't changed anything over here.

How would you like to keep logging onto FR over & over & over again? It's a PITA.

no problems here......suggest scandisk and reboot.
