I was listening to an archived broadcast (10/29/01) of Catholic Answers today that featured Fr. Frank Pavone. He said that he's "in negotiations" with Cardinal Egan regarding remaining with Priests for Life in some capacity.
Even better, he mentioned that he has been working with a Catholic attorney regarding overturning Roe v. Wade. The attorney recommended the famous "rolling billboard" campaign. The lawyer researched how issues like slavery were overturned by the SC in the past. He determined that in every case the bulk of the population was presented with images of the injustice whether they liked it or not. And so the billboard campaign was devised.
The campaign consists of photos of aborted babies three months of age or less, the age when 90% of abortions occur, mounted on tractor-trailers. Then they roll. LET'S ROLL!
Sigh, I can now understand why you have no problem with killing unborn children for the sake of convenience.
Also since you seem to think that third term infanticide is questionable you need to explain why. On previous posts you stated that a child doesnt achieve personhood until he/she draws a first breath. Children in their mothers womb have no need to draw breath to live. Since this is your criterion for personhood and these children dont meet the requirements, why is a third term abortion wrong?
The site looks great now. Tell your friends about it!
If you argue that abortion should be legal and/or if you vote for politicians who favor legal abortion, then you are complicit in the practice.
One cannot take a neutral moral position regarding the legalization of murder.
Fortunately, truth is not a popularity contest. Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!
I get the impression that you are very disappointed to find that I do not support third term abortions. It sounds to me as if you want to argue that I should support them. I am sorry if I disappoint you. Be that as it may...
It is like a lottery.
Before they announce your first matching number, your potential for winning the lottery is very small. You could walk away from the lottery at this time with a very low potential for winning.
As they call each successive matching number you potential to win grows higher. The higher your potential to win, the more foolish it would be for you to walk away from the lottery.
If you were to walk away from the lottery just before you last matching number was called you would be foolishly walking away from a huge potential to win.
The same is true for the potential person in the womb. The longer it survives its journey towards personhood the greater its potential to be come a person. The greater its potential for personhood, the more foolish it would be to end that journey towards personhood.
If your position requires us to take an all or nothing stand, then you lose. You lose hundreds of thousands of fetuses that you could have saved by a bit of compromise. You also lose creditablity on your position that you are trying to save lives.
Whatever. IAC, the death of women in childbirth in the United States is rarer than the aborting of children who have mistakenly been identified as deformed. What would you think if you were told that your unborn child had down's syndrome and then discovered that the child was normal.
My wife and I decided before we had our first child that we would never abort unless her life was in danger and that we would not do the tests for downs syndrome. That was our personal CHOICE.

pcl: If that is the case, then any futher discussion on this topic is also irrelevant. I believe that the introduction of the soul into a homo sapian [sic] infant when it takes its first breath is what make a homo sapian [sic] a person.
So what is your definition of this magical soul that turns a living member of the species Homo sapiens into a person? Where does this magical soul come from?
Since you do not believe in the concept of a soul, there is value is discussing this with you.
Two points:
1)Did you perhaps leave a "no" out of the preceding sentence? :-)
2)I didn't say that I don't believe in the concept of a soul. What I said was that I think the concept of a soul is irrelevant to this discussion. You apparently feel differently. It would appear that you are afraid to tangle with me on this issue, so you are going to run away. You won't even define what you mean by a "soul" nor explain where you believe the "soul" comes from.
And I thought I was the king of rationalization.
I have no problem with you looking at it this way.
My attitude about talking about this with you is more like "Don't wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty and the pig likes it."
In other words I do not feel like having you nit picking over this belief of mine. Make whatever you want out of that.
Well, let's see where we are. We have a disagreement. I asked you to explain your position. You refused. Doesn't look like we're going to have much of a conversation, does it?
Sometimes I think you must be a shill for us pro-lifers.
For one thing, your arguments are very weak. When things get tough and you are asked to explain your position, you run and hide while making often disgusting comments. It makes your side look very bad and ineffectual. You post so much, I wonder how you have time for anything else. It would appear that FreeRepublic is your entire life. Kinda sad, actually.
If you did have a life beyond the FreeRepublic abortion boards, these discussions would have died out long ago. You are practically single-handedly keeping these issues front and center here on FR. For that, I'm sure Jim Robinson is grateful. Not only is it helping promote the pro-life cause, bringing the abortion billboard trucks to peoples' attention, but it is helping FR raise money to keep this site open. I know I'm certainly grateful to you. We always need a few liberals around here to help remind us why we fight for the right.
You've stated that you don't care if you convince anyone else here of the rightness of your position. It's a good thing too, because I sure haven't seen much evidence that you've been successful in that endeavor. It's difficult to understand why anyone would bother to continue to spend so much of their time putting forth the same position over and over and over again and then refuse to back it up with any cogent arguments.
Whatever floats your boat is fine with me, but just know that you can be sure that you will be asked over and over again to explain your position. Any time, you want to have a REAL debate, you know where to find me.
