I saw that too. I wondered if he had Actinic Keratosis (pre-cancerous lessions) or Basal Cells removed. They do it with Cryo surgery (liquid Nitro which freezes it). Not life threatening.

They can't put makeup on them. They need to be kept clean, and can have an antibiotic ointment put on them, but nothing else.

I worked as a back office Dermatologist Nurse for 3 years. I'm certainly not professing to be a Doctor.. but that was my guess. :o)

"Well, kids, a 'daisy cutter' is a reeeeally big bomb. It weighs over 15,000 pounds... that's more than 200 of you little guys all put together, and it's as big as a Volkswagen Beetle! Anyways, when you drop it on the bad guys, it ignites into a huuuuuuge fireball, lightin' up the sky like a nuke-u-lar bomb, and it'll incinerate all evildoers within an area the size of a football stadium! We have plenty more of these in case more bad guys, like Saddam Hussein and Yassir Arafat and Hamas ever try to mess with us again!"

WASHINGON (AP) -- President Bush had four noncancerous lesions removed from his face last week, the White House said Monday.

Press secretary Ari Fleischer said the lesions were removed with liquid nitrogen during a brief procedure Friday at the White House. The president had one lesion on each cheek, his forehead and temple.

Fleischer disclosed the procedure after reporters noticed spots on the president's face during an afternoon appearance celebrating the Muslim feast of Eid al-Fitr.

"For a man his age, when you're out in the sun a lot as a young man, I'm told this is extremely common," the spokesman said.

Fleischer said the spots were seborrheic keratoses.

They are waxy- or scaly-looking growths that are not cancerous and become very common as people age. Unlike certain other skin growths, this particular type of keratosis is unlikely ever to turn into cancer. Thus, they typically aren't removed unless they become irritated or for cosmetic reasons.

In August, during his first physical as president, doctors at Bethesda Naval Hospital removed three small actinic keratoses lesions from Bush's face. That form of lesion can develop into cancer.

"Gee whiz, chill out." WHY would you ask me to 'chill out' - - you're the one misusing the posting guidelines. Some of us on this forum don't need to read a bunch of vanity crap - for naught!

Hey, if you don't want to read it, don't click on it. Go read one of the seventeen hundred Lord of the Rings threads.

Relax and be happy. It's just a thread asking about the president's health which is supported by a story by the Associated Press.

Merry Christmas, Peace on Earth, Goodwill towards men.

Yep, probably. Its cululative and thats what happens when you have been out in this Texas sun too much. Not a problem unless it goes unattended. I've had it for 20-years.

Not a problem unless it goes unattended. I've had it for 20-years.

I could even tell that the Liquid Nitro had been applied by q'tip. You can actually see the outline of it. Which happens because anywhere the Liquid Nitro is.. it freezes the skin. If it had been sprayed.. it would most likely be round, and a pretty big blister.

President Bush is pretty fair skinned. He has freckles..and I imagine spent some time (since a kid!!) in the sun, the damage is accumulative. Actinic Keratosis won't do anything unless unattended. Basal Cell Carcinoma "normally" won't either. It is rare.. but it "can" spread to bone. I once knew a patient who left a Basal Cell unattended on his nose. He lost all the bone in his nose by the time they got to treating it. He now has a plastic sheath. It's very noticeable.. so if you do have a flakey re-occurring spot,.. get it looked at.

As you already know :o)

I just got through reading this thread better, and checking out the links. I can assure you it was most likely NOT Seborrheic Keratosis (a totally benign lesion). And the picture provided here by someone (sorry forgot who) didn't look like 99 and 9/10ths of the Seborrheic Keratosis I ever saw. And I saw a lot of them!! I helped remove them. Heck, I could tell the difference easily,..in fact the girls and I in the office used to see how often I was right :o) (I usually was :o) But in a Dermatologists office.. you see Basal Cells, Actinic Keratosis, Seborrheic Keratosis a lot.

I recognized a Melanoma on my husband that 4 doctors kept saying was NOTHING to worry about. In Oklahoma a Dermatologist finally agreed and biopsied it for us. It was a Melanoma!!!

The Plastic Surgeon who operated on him (It was on his face) said I saved his life. (Boy does my husband OWE me.. LOL)

I bet you figured out right away what our Prez had on his face. And yes.. if you are inclined to have them.. you need to keep watch like you do. Good advice..and I hope people saw it. You don't leave a pre-cancerous skin lesion alone. It will just continue to eat away the skin..and you'll chance more of a scar if they are left unattended. So why wait.. if its scaley..and re-occuring. Get it checked out. Even if it is itsy bitsy!! (Which Actinic Keratosis usually is!!)

I also hope people USE sunscreen!!!! I'll bet our Prez does now days on a regular/daily basis!! It can prevent re-occurence. You don't keep adding fuel to the fire... ya know?

FRegards!!
