Is there a lever rifle in 7.62x39?

In the new year, I'll be adding lever rifles to my collection. Suggestions of good collectible's will be appreciated.

I would like one 7.62x39 to reduce the number of different calibers I need to stock. I'm thinking it's a pretty close performer to the 30-30. I am also interested in anything anyone knows about .22 lever rifles.

most lever action rifles have tubular magazines which means pointed bullets are a BIG no-no. Pointed bullets directly behind centerfire rifle cartridges means problems. You're probably stuck with the traditional flat nose bullet calibers.

Maybe there's something out there with a clip feed. Something like that old Savage
model that feeds them "pointy" type bullets from an magazine (built-in type).
But I think that one is for rounds like .30'06, .270 and the like.

Winchester is bring out the 1895 in 405 win cal I have never seen a 7.62x39 lever. I surrpose the browning lever could be made into one they come in 308 ect.

Duh! That would be why I couldn't find any information. I'm generally not stupid, but I have my moments.

Any experience with lever rifles? I'm clueless about them. I've only played with semi-autos and bolt action.

You must mean the Model 99 Savage lever. It used an internal rotary magazine.

I had an old Winchester model 88 (I think) in .308. Box mag, nice rifle, lever action. Mid '60's IIRC. I suppose that doesn't exactly answer your question, but it's the best I can do.

Get a good SKS or heck even An M-44 carbine.

Most levers use a rimmed cartridge. The 7.62x39 is rimless, I believe. I doubt you'll find a lever chambered for it.

You won't find a lever gun in 762x39 for the reasons mentioned above, but 30-30 is ballistically a close match. If you want to keep calibers consistent, consider a handgun caliber like 44 or 357 Magnum.

2002 is the year of the lever rifle for this household. We've got examples of all the important semi-autos.

There isn't any common levergun that has ever been offered in the 7.62x39. But, more than half the 1895 Winchesters sold were sold to the Russian Govt in 7.62x54 caliber. This was Russia's standard "full size" rifle cartridge. A lot of these rifles got captured in Finland (?) in the "Winter War".

The problem with lever action rifles using sptizer (pointed) bullets is that if the recoil slams the point of one round into the primer of the round directly ahead, and said primer ignites, well, you get the picture. At the very least, one will have a remodeled rifle, some expensive medical bills from a hand surgeon, and a healthy respect for burning propellant grains.

I happen to own a Winchester '94 in .375 Winchester. This rifle was known as the "big bore" and I enjoy it immensely. However, the only bullet that is offered from the factory is a 200gr FP. There are other FP bullets which can be cast and loaded in this firearm, but in NO WAY should you use a pointed bullet, unless one was going to load the firearm single shot, directly into the chamber. Incidentally, you can fire this using .375 round balls and black powder, but one has to single shot load directly into the chamber.

If a lever action is available with a box or a rotary magazine, then 7.62x39 would be a nice caliber. It is readily available everywhere, is accurate for most hunting that is normally done with a lever action, and if one gets a supply of brass able to be boxer primed, can be reloaded.

Personally, I have never seen a lever action rifle in this caliber, but I defer to others who may have seen them.
