Any ham radio FReepers
CURIOUS ME | 02/10/02 | rabidralph

Posted on 02/10/2002 2:53:27 PM PST by rabidralph

I am wondering if there are any ham radio operators amongst we FReepers? My brother is reading up on getting his license and I might give it a try, also. Is there a FReeper radio club?

Thanks for the ping sarcasm.

I am a ham radio operator. I have been licensed for about 47 years. As far as I know, there is no FReeper radio club.

I was a VE at one time but I am not active in the program now. What do you need to know about getting a license?

KD5CTS John and I are both regulars here, and there are at least few more about.

Be sure to visit The American Radio Relay League for some great info for new hams. I'd encourage you to make contact with a local ham or two; most would be glad to answer questions.

I hope you'll join us. Ham radio is a wonderful hobby!

Both my wife and I are hams. My wife is a Tech and I'm an Extra. Seems to me that hams are (in general, for the PC types) basically conservative and love America. Great bunch of people out there!!!

The ARRL site seems to be down. Try the AC6V RADIO site. There is a wealth of knowledge there.

Originally, K8HCC, Ohio, 1957, then N4KRH, then N9OAU, Illinois. Got the General in high school. The net has taken its place. Seems that, except for Emergency Nets, mostly just talked about was equipment(rigs), weather(wx). buckeye63

Yep - I'm another one... I don't like to post my call because of all the nuts out there that have pretty free access to my demographics on the net.

Another HAM here but just don't care to publish my call letters. Join us, you can meet a lot of new people. The internet has taken over most of the interest in radio but it is still a lot of fun.

Ralph,

Amateur Radio is a wonderfully fascinating hobby, especially if you're a "communicator". Go to any Radio Shack and they can provide you with everything you'll need to pass the test, plus the equipment to use once the FCC issues your license.

But be warned: Like any large group of vocal people who interact regularly, hams have within their ranks those whose reason d'etre is to control the rest.

Here's a little peek into just one such struggle.
