Human Events features Jim Robinson and Free Republic
Human Events ^ | March 12, 2002 | Joseph A. D'Agostino

Posted on 03/12/2002 10:16:09 AM PST by who knows what evil?

I was the recipient of a very pleasant surprise when I retrieved my weekly copy of the conservative newspaper, HUMAN EVENTS, from my mailbox a few minutes ago. On page 12, in Joe D'Agostino's 'Conservative Spotlight' column, my eye was caught immediately by a black-and-white photo of Free Republic founder Jim Robinson!

This is a very flattering article; Jim discusses the history of Free Republic; the mission statement; and the situation with the LAT/WP legal entanglement.

Please keep in mind that HUMAN EVENTS has a subscriber base approaching 50,000, and is read by a number of "movers and shakers" in the Washington area. Hopefully, this prominent article in HUMAN EVENTS will help swell the ranks of both posters and lurkers here at Free Republic!

The March 11, 2002 issue of Insight Magazine (Page 34) has a whole page about FR with a handsome picture of JimRob and the FR logo.
The title of the article is: Free Republic Forum Takes On Big Media.
Here is an excerpt:..."Often termed "right wing" it is a battleground where those of a libertarian bent fight it out in no uncertain terms with social conservatives. Liberals, if they drop in, rarely make camp...."

Is there any way to input this article so we can all read it? I checked the link in someone's post, above, but there's no online link to the article. :(

You are correct...I haven't been able to find a link anywhere at HE's website. Think maybe they would post it if we BEGGED them? I think they would prefer to SELL the issue to us; but who knows?

Thanks for the Ping. They have an online teaser that reads

MEET JIMROB, virtual founder of online conservatism. The inventor of the 80,000-member FreeRepublic.com discusses the movement he was instrumental in creating.

Bump for Jim!

Not likely. There is an Insight Magazine link on the front page of the FR forum. I went over to the March 11 page but didn't see it. Will you go look? I'm not to computer handy. (If you really want to see it, I'll send you the page if you'd like. Send info by FReep mail)

He's firmly behind the LAT and WP.

They have a bigger buffet table.

Nah. They won't do it. But, someone who has both the article and time on their hands might manually input it here on this thread....[hint to: anyone reading this] :)

"I'll be hunting down a copy!"

Yes, but will you be "routing it out" and "bringing it to justice"?

I rooted around on their website. I found the 3/11/02 issue, but no sign of the piece you mentioned. I'm going to check my far to the left Books-A-Million store when I go into town later.

No kidding! Does anyone know if this particular issue is STILL on the newsstands?...Insight dates their mags about three weeks ahead, so this is by now an old issue probably not available on any newstand...I saw the article but couldn't find it online on their web site, and never got around to opscanning it for posting...it was a great picture of JimRob, though....

"has a whole page about FR with a handsome picture of JimRob"

Jim told me these two articles were in the works. BTW, he said he needed a picture to give them to go with the article so he took the one of himself off of my profile page and sent it in. I am proud to say that my very own professional photographer husband took that handsome photograph of Jim when we went up to one of the Condit FReeps last summer. :-)

The woman who did the fireman ice sculpture in Timmins appears to be named Darlene Racicot. See this article for details.
