China to lift veil on its J-10

By By Craig Hoyle, JDW Aviation Editor, London, with additional reporting by
Yihong Chang, JDW Correspondent, Toronto

China could display its J-10 fighter aircraft for the first time at the Zhuhai airshow in November, according to Chinese officials speaking during Singapore's Asian Aerospace exhibition this month.

Built by the Chengdu Aircraft Industrial Corporation, the J-10 attempts to rival current fourth-generation Western fighters.

A single-engine, single-seat design, the multi-role J-10 will represent a significant capability advance for the People's Liberation Army Air Force, which will operate it alongside its future fleet of Russian-built and licence-manufactured Sukhoi Su-27SK interceptors.

Likely armaments for the design include a number of systems from Israel and Russia as well as licence-built Chinese weapons.

Apparently none directly, but then again they got the basic designs from the russians and the israelis, who stole their technology from the U.S.

ah, a 2-seat F-16/Lavi ripoff ... does it include navigational equipment to keep the ChiCom pilots from ramming our EP-3E Aries II aircraft?

obviously China has just come up with a 4th generation aircraft when the U.S has already began testing a 5th generation fighter.

supposedly this aircraft is better than the F-16, its has russian optical targeting systems for close range dogfights which the F-16 lacks, but then again there is the F-22 which pretty much wipes out all competition.

Lets not forget the F-16 that the Pakis 'lent' to China for some hands on learning. Surely that must have voided some cluases in the purchase contract...yet we continue to provide them with spares and equipment. Stupendous.

I sure hope that it has EP-3E avoidance systems, as well as warnings for minimum separation. Not to mention air bags.

Waitaminute...you just gave me an idea. The widow of Wong Wei hires some sleazeball personal injury lawyer and sues the manufacturer of the J-8 he was flying...because there was no warning label on the airplane saying "Stay away from airplanes bigger than this one, collisions can be hazardous to your health."

To be fair, they also sue Lockheed-Martin, because they didn't warn anyone about how dangerous the propellor was (despite its nickname of "Cuisinart").

Given the possible tech advantages the J-10 might have over the F-16, I would take an F-16 piloted by an American pilot over ANY Chinese or Russian Plane piloted by a Russian or Chinese pilot who has to fight to record a few hours in the plane a week.

Gosh, I sure hope their J-10 insurance is up to date...

Wonder what the deductible is.
