How could anyone in their right mind enter into a business relationship with something called the Conservancy, made up of leftist extremists, and not expect to get jacked around?

Man, talk about your thread where every single poster doesn't have a clue and makes idiotic knee-jerk comments.

The Nature Conservancy is about the most moderate environmental group there is.

Notice THE NATURE CONSERVANCY BOUGHT THE LAND.

That's their modus operandi. They're not the Sierra Club, etc. etc. that wants the government to take other people's land or tell them what to do with it. The Nature Conservancy solicits contributions from its members and simply BUYS land they consider important environmentally or in preserving a certain species. They don't get government contributions to do so, as best I can tell.

If someone wants to buy a parcel of land from somebody build a massive shopping mall on the habitat of some rare butterfly, other environmental groups try to get the government to stop them from building the mall; the Nature Conservancy merely offers the property owner more $$$ than the guy who wants to build the shopping mall.

It's simple capitalism. It's unfortunate this particular deal didn't work out, but the rancher entered into it of his own free will and the Nature Conservancy owned the land.

Oh I see, we're idiots. Well let me ask you:

If TNC goes to FedGov, and foists regulations that harrass ranchers into bankruptcy so that the property value of their land drops like a brick, and then shows up with a check to buy it at a reduced price, is that racketeering? If they turn around and sell off chunks to preferred developers when the former owner was prevented from doing that because of zoning laws preventing rampant development, is that preferential treatment? If FedGov turns around and buys the land from TNC at a fat profit, is that collusion or graft? If TNC develops its regulatory management theories using government grants what is that?

Just because you don't know how it works doesn't give you the entitlement to pass judgment. Who is the idiot here?

As a former Idiot, I used to support this Green land grabbing organization. Then, about 3 years ago I saw and heard of actions like this and others. I let my membership expire/lapse.

Proud to be a Former Idiot or no longer a donating fool to the TNC subtle but anti farming/ranching control schemes!

When you have the credentials and ability to write an excellent book on how to correct the damage done by the enviralists like Carry Okie has, you might realize who the real idiot was re TNC!

Until then I will depend on Carry, the other Good Freepers and others who battle the Green Nazis to keep this previously former idiot informed of what is really going on. Not the phoney baloney publicity of todays enviralist organizations like TNC!

Here in Sacramento, a court told the City which land would be set aside as habitat. The suit brought by enviro groups. Of course the land to be set aside is not in the City limits nor adjacent to the city limits. The value of the land for development has gone up because of other development in the area. The city does not want to buy the development rights so they are condemning the property. Once they have possesion they will give it to the conservancy to convert to habitat. The County will do nothing because this plan protects the airport.

John,

You may be a conservative, but I recommend you do some investigative research on The Nature Conservancy as to what a bunch of communists they are. This forum has ream's of truth in electronic storage - right here!Carry_Okie's book is also a good place to start. Find out how bad "The Green Machine really is! Pick up a copy of "Set Up and Sold Out" by Holly Swanson. When you wake up to what's going on here in America....it will set you spinning.

The Tranels said, for example, that the conservancy required them to move 520 cow-calf pairs three times in one week during last summer's breeding season to conserve grazing pastures.

Sir, this isn't ranching. It's a cattle drive!

The Tranel ranching family "bought" the land from the Conservancy. Unless this was some kind of sweetheart deal the Tranel family was making payments on the land. I don't think its possible to make the payments off the money earned from a cattle operation. Succesful cattle operations already own the land free & clear or have a cheap lease.
