by Hugh Davie, Entertainment Correspondent
The American film star Halle Berry is reported to be asking for a higher fee for her Revlon advertisemnets after winning an Academy Award for best actress in the film Monster's Ball. Ron Perelman, the costumes films chief, is said to be resisting her demand.
They are said to have talked at Sir Elton John's Oscar party, Mr. Perleman, congratulated her, saying how happy he was that she modeled for his company. The actress replied: "Of course, you'll have to pay me more."
According to the New York Post, Mr. Perelman "turned purple" with rage and stalked off, Instructing his lawyers to make the most of Berry's coup. "and still keep her indentured at her current rate for as long as possible". Berry, 33, has about a year of her contract to run.
A Revlon spokesman said: "We're delighted for Halle-and she remains under contract with Revlon." The company took out a full-page advertisement in Women's Wear Daily last Friday, congratulating the actress on her Hollywood triumph.
Berry, whose mother is from Liverpool, began her career as a model after winning a school beauty contest. Her first role was in Living Dolls, a television drama set is the modelling world. She signed for Revlon to replace Cindy Crawford, although it was said her fees were not as large as the supermodel's.
Berry has said that her modelling is not a great help for her Hollywood career as directors were tempted to dismiss her as "just another pretty face". However, she continued to model, she said, as it was important for black women to be protrayed as beautiful in the mass media.
Michael Musto, a Village Voice columnist, once complained that Revlon made Berry look too white in the advertisements. He wrote; "They've made her lighter even than Ava Gardner in Showbaot."

Your right, she is her biggest fan. I hope she will be very happy, her and herself.
That isn't difficult.
Hattie McDaniels, Butterfly McQueen-Gone With the Wind.
Juanita Moore- Imitation of Life
Della Reese--Touched By An Angel
Those are just a few of the most wonderful black actresses I have ever seen on the screen.
Someone once asked Hattie McDaniel (mammy) "why you always play a maid for the white man in them movies?' Her reply was "I'd rather play a maid in the movies than be a maid in real life." she was great, and I loved her.
Did his buddy, the IMPEACHED ex-42, teach him how to turn purple?
