"Stars to Stop Suicide Slaughter of Civlians" - A Modest Proposal
The Gray Matter | 4/6/02 | self

Posted on 04/06/2002 7:57:50 AM PST by gg188

I propose to start a movement: Let's get Bono, Julia Roberts, Susan Sarandon, Oprah, Springsteen, etc., on a telethon, on a mission, to STOP SUICIDE BOMBING OF JEWS. To STOP THE HOLOCAUST of JEWS in our lifetime.

TOPICS: Miscellaneous; Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS:
These stars I listed----and we can think of a ton of others (Streisand comes to mind; Ted Danson; Whoopi, and on and on)----GREW UP in the immediate aftermath of the holocaust, many REARED by holocaust SURVIVORS.

It is time they stood up and said that we will honor them and we will honor the greatest generation and we will also simply DO WHAT IS RIGHT and we will not let history repeat itself. Why in HADES would we have fought a dang world war and spent 50 years in self-flaggelation over the deaths of 8 million jews and now IGNORE the murder of jews...?

(Boy---this is beginning to sound more and more like Swift's "Modest Proposal" in its farce and facetiousness, because we know, of course, that these phony limosine liberals aren't going to speak out against their pals the Palis----they have supported the Palis and advocated the extermination of Israel since they and since I and since we, the boomers, were in school in the sixties, for crying out loud---it was a TENET of the radical left of which they and the CLINTONS, for example, were and are part-and-parcel.)

So. Back to the modest proposal.

The Boss, and John Cougar Melloncamp Whatever-Fashionable-Marketing-Name-Du-Jour and Rockers-For-Choice and We-Are-The-World and Farm-Aid and Feed-Africa.....how about you all get together and take a real stand against......ANTI SEMITISM??? Eh???? Now THAT is something you could sink your TEETH into? Seems to ME????

Imagine, say, if some white guy were walking into a crowded marketplace in, say, Sudan, every day, blowing himself up, and taking out two or three dozen other souls with him? Can you imagine the outcry?

Yet, somehow, it's ok if it's jews.....Hmmm.....(And to think....when I was growing up....a white suburban Southern Baptist in a mid-sized segregated southern city....I couldn't figure out how in hell the people of Germany, or the people of Europe or the world, sorta stood by in the thirties and let the anti-semitism build up to such a fever pitch. Uh, well, now I can see how...........BTW, I had met ONE jew before I went to college.)

So let's get behind this:

Maybe DFU can write an anthem for us. One that we can all sing, one that Bruce can lead, maybe Dylan can join in and help HIS OWN DAMN PEOPLE! And BARBRA...WHERE are you? Is Jackie Mason the only Jewish entertainer who will come out for his own people?

I wanna see Julia Roberts say, "I KISSED DON RICKLES" and giggle like an idiot.

Seriously.

Seriously: Can you imagine the impact if George Clooney and Denzel and Halle and Michael Jackson all got together and said, Look, Yassir, you MUST STOP this killing of innocent JEWS---YOU are the problem. We, the world, cannot abide with a new century of more Jewish genocide. We SEE what is going on. You may fool the media and the rest of the world but you don't fool us with your double-talk. Israel defends itself. The "cycle" of violence is permanently BRAKED after YOU end TERRORISM against the JEWS who are not agressing and who have not agressed ever against Arabs, despite every war started by ARABS against ISRAEL.

So, end the violence. We will sing, GIVE PEACE A CHANCE. We will sing of peace, to promote peace. The suicide bombing and the killing of jews must end.

Signed with love and lots of peace signs,
Bono
The Boss
Barbra
The Edge
Meathead
Etc, etc, etc.

When has Springsteen, Bono, or any other celebrity you mentioned ever expressed sympathy for the Palestinians or criticism of Israel?

Sorry, but stopping something as blatantly obvious as the suicide bombings directed against Israeli civilians is simply too mundane to attract the attention of the aforementioned bleeding heart " consciences of their generation." They're much too smart and ahead of their times for that. Allying themselves with the Israeli cause would make them feel, well.....average.

They (speaking generally of their ilk) are and have been involved in a litany of leftist causes revolving around the theme of "peace".

I cannot think of a better cause than to stop the suicide bombings that kill innocent jews.

Several of the aforementioned are actively involved in the "landmine" cause. I certainly think those energies are properly diverted, at least temporarily, to the cause of stopping the suicide bombings.

Look---let's stop kidding ourselves. I was at a Springsteen concert in 85 and he said, and I quote (he said this a lot), "Nobody wins unless everybody wins." Bono is demanding that the West liquidate its assets to those who have not created their own wealth. These are the ideals of communism and of socialists. These people hate Israel because 1) Israel represents a free society which means free market capitalism, and commies hate freedom, preferring a total state, and 2) there is a nasty undercurrent of anti-semitism, I regret to say.

So you're saying that Springsteen and Bono must be anti-semites because Springsteen mouthed some vaguely egalitarian cliches in his concerts, and because Bono advocates forgiving the debt of Third World nations? That's quite a stretch, to say the least.

If Israel represents a free society then I am missing something. I thought that certain people who were born in the state of Israel can't vote in their elections. Am I misinformed? I thought that there are roads and areas in Israel where only certain types of people born in Israel can travel. Am I misinformed about this too?

If I am mistaken please direct me to a reliable source for the facts. If I am not mistaken then it is disingenuous to call Israel a free society.

Actually, if we could get all of the internationally recognized stars of all the various medias to descend on these two nations, and disperse themselves through out both, offering themselves not only as mythically heroic human shields, but also as reporters for where ever they are, either in Palestine, or Israel, they may be able to accomplish a move towards peace.

For those embroiled in this conflict, who feel unheard, these famous stars can get their word out to the world at large. They can write songs, plays, television comedies, whatever, pinpointing the real problems and humiliating those who's real gripe is racial hatred.

No one who is good in this world wishes for either side to suffer, for any child to be harmed. The problem is the racially, or religiously based intolerance. There is no better way to educate and change opinions than through the arts.

1. The "disingenuous" part is to suggest that "democracy" equals "freedom"? First, though it is not directly germaine to the discussion here, you've revealed you need to understand this salient distinction, particularly considering the FORUM you're on: go understand the difference between a DEMOCRACY and a REPUBLIC. "Democracy" by no means equals freedom. There have been and are socialist states that have elections. We could have a FINE republic without universal suffrage! But that aside...

2. Re., ECONOMIC freedom, according to the HERITAGE Foundation, of 200 or so countries, Israel is a remarkable 54th despite the travails of being under Arab- and leftist-attack for 54 years, to wit:

Since its founding in 1948, Israel has technically been at war with most of its Arab neighbors. This has imposed a heavy defense burden that has been lightened only slightly by peace treaties with Egypt in 1979 and Jordan in 1994. Because of limited natural resources, Israel depends on imports of oil, grain, and many raw materials. It posts large current account deficits that are covered by transfer payments from abroad, as well as by foreign aid and foreign loans. Despite these economic difficulties, Israel has built a technologically advanced economy that has been helped by the influx of highly educated immigrants from the former Soviet Union. Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s Prime Minister from 1996 to mid-1999, made progress in reducing Israel’s dependence on American economic aid, agreeing to phase out $1.2 billion a year in U.S. economic aid over 10 years in exchange for an increase of half that amount in U.S. military aid. His ambitious plans for free-market reform were frustrated by the unstable nature of his coalition government. The Labor Party’s Ehud Barak, elected Prime Minister in May 1999, also has been weakened by coalition bickering and has made little progress in reforming Israel’s large state sector. Inflation is declining; however, Israel’s regulation score is worse than it was last year. As a result, Israel’s overall score remains unchanged this year.

3. Now, much to the dismay and chagrin of those who, as you seem, and to those who harbor some sort of residual anti-semitism despite Israel being one of the USA's only allies, despite their being one of the only nations holding to our western Judeo-Christian values, here's the 411 on the Israel government:

According to the CIA World Fact Book---so don't read it if you still want to hold onto a hatred of Israel supported by a myth that it isn't a "democracy" (which I personally prefer a republic, anyway, but that's just me; YOU brought up democracy):

Government type: parliamentary democracy

Constitution: no formal constitution; some of the functions of a constitution are filled by the Declaration of Establishment (1948), the Basic Laws of the parliament (Knesset), and the Israeli citizenship law.

Legal system: mixture of English common law, British Mandate regulations, and, in personal matters, Jewish, Christian, and Muslim legal systems

Suffrage: 18 years of age; universal

_______________________________________________

It is my understanding that Arabs are more free in Israel than in any Arab country. It is my understanding that Arabs in Arab nations live in total states in which their leaders are absolute despots and they are not free.

That's neither here nor there.

Israel is our ally. More importantly, Israel HAS THE SAME VALUES WE DO. The same Western values. Worships the same God---the God Who gave them that land.

Finally---back to my point in the post to which you took umbrage at my disingenuousness for because I presumed YOUR OWN supposition that DEMOCRACY EQUALS FREEDOM (which I don't presume) and I presumed as the world does that the CIA WORLD BOOK is the authority on such facts as "Suffrage [in Israel over 18 yo is] UNIVERSAL". These people are our allies and our philosophical brothers and our religions kin. They are being murdered by the same heathen, pagan, cowardly animals who have and who will again murder us.

IF Bono and company REALLY want to make a difference for PEACE and if they REALLY care about innocent people dying at the hands of murderers and killers and land mines, this is a situation that is so perfect, so black-and-white, so immediate, so clear---and one in which they could make an immediate and huge difference right now by mobilizing an event like they did in the aftermath of Sept 11, a worldwide telethon to stop the suicide bombings like we had for seven consective days last week.

My POINT is they aren't going to do it. DUH!! The LEFT supports the PALIS! The left opposes Israel. Duh. Smoke 'em out. Smoke out the left for what they are. They are NOT for peace and never have been. They are for leftist causes. Peace when it SUITS the leftist causes. War when it suits the leftist causes.

They only have to go to ONE SIDE----the ARAB side. There have been, I think, five wars since 1948. All started by Arabs. Have the Israelis ever committed one suicide bombing? No. Have they ever instigated one unprovoked attack? Of course not. The "CYCLE" of violence is U.S media left-wing propaganda. Israel just wants to be left alone. We have PERSONALLY, in the USA, on Sept 11, SEEN FOR OURSELVES the mindset of these people that the Jews in Israel face every day. These heathens are crazy. They do not think like civilized people as we understand civlization in the West. What Israel is having to do to survive we are going to have to do. Our time is now and is coming and will get worse. There are a billion islams out there in their 15th century of their avowed jihad or whatever the pagans call it to kill or enslave every jew and christian on the planet.

But no, this post of mine was truly like Swift's modest proposal. The leftist entertainment herd isn't going to support Israel. Give me a break! Ha!! The so-called Palestinians could overrun Israel and do to them what is happening in Zimbabwe and Bono and others would still be on their POLITICALLY CORRECT crusades. They are PHONIES. Phony hypocrites. Ready to spend YOUR money and MY money. But you can bet that Bono and company have THEIR money safely invested in every imaginable tax haven in the world.

Let us not forget to add Steven Speilberg to the list. In fact, he should be bumped to the top! Especially after the awards and millions he made after "Schindler's List".

Curious reply. In your post you said that Israel is a free society. You did not use the word democracy. Then when I question the accuracy of the phrase free society you tell me I don't understand what a democracy is. Israel is not a free society for all of its native-born population. To point that out is not anti-semitic. Truth is not pro- or anti- anything, it just is. If you meant to call Israel a democracy rather than a free society then you should have used the right words.

As for the left in this country (in Hollywood in particular since this is your post's focal point) it is amusing to see the people whom you list to be put in a position of maintaining their leftist purity while defending Israel's actions. If the conflict were indentically mirrored with two other groups the Hollywood Elite Left, which harbors many Jewish Americans, would be four square against the party that would be in the Israeli position.

Many posters on this forum have taken a Jesse Jackson like attitude toward any discussion of Israel. That is they paint anyone who is not lock-step with them on every nuance of the conflict as an anti-semite. It is silly and counter-productive when Jackson uses this ploy. It is the same when you use it.

As for your assertion that God gave the land to the Jews, in legal parlance this comes under the heading of a self-serving statement...a book written by the "chosen" themselves is used as proof. The concept of any one group being divinely chosen is not unique to jews, just look at similar attitudes and beliefs in groups as disparate as the Japanese and the Navaho. Nor is the idea that God is on our side. Every side feels that with equal ardor and conviction.

You yourself profess to care about "innocent people dying at the hands of murderers..." and want to expose the hypocrisy of the left elite for their inaction. Where was your vocal outrage when the innocents being murdered were in Sri Lanka, or Bosnia, or East Timor? You pick and choose your causes just like everyone else does, and then stamp your feet when the rest of the world doesn't dance to your tune.

I was thinking that the stars, the famous, could act as protection against the suicide bombers. It would certainly ruin the Arafat’s cause, with a great many left wing sympathizers if, say Brittany Speers while staying in Israel to act as a human shield, was blown up by an Arafatian. Of course if she were blown up while in Arafat Land, acting as a human shield, by an Israel tank so would Israel's image be damaged. That's why I called the star's presence heroic, because there would be real risk to their lives and limbs, in service to the interests of Peace, Love, and Understanding. Which does serve to illustrate the untenable position everyone is in.

What is happening in Middle East is beyond any sanity, and not only a threat to its own existence, but the rest of the worlds. Yes, I agree that the Arafatians are evilly wrong, and that Israel must stand. But we must figure out a way to deal with the Arafat’s, institutional, generational, irrational hate. The propaganda in which the Arafat’s have been submerged in since birth, which preaches the total elimination of Israel, continues up to this very day, has been inculcated in every Arafatian man woman and infant.

Short of eliminating every Arafatian on earth, which at times, especially since September eleventh, is an emotionally satisfying thought, it is against everything, which supposedly makes us righteous and them evil.

We must find it within ourselves to emotionally distance ourselves from our unproductive, though righteous hate and figure out a way that will work to change this.

  1. Though evil and wrong, these Arafatians do have a right to exist, though not to harm others.
  2. We must change what they believe.
  3. What they now believe is the result of evilly manipulative propaganda.
  4. The way to counteract evil manipulative propaganda is with good education. Truth.
  1. Great artists make good education accessible.

As with Afghanistan, instead of dropping bombs at the cost of tens of thousands of dollars per bombing mission, (or is hundreds of thousands?) we should hand out free 36” high definition televisions to every family, community, and tea room, and wire the whole country with cable which we control exclusively. Programming should immediately be developed which shows how to improve homes, run business, treat neighbors etc. Even if they just want to watch Brittany Speers’ compelling prancing about, if she is singing tunes of “Love Thy Neighbor” and that other chart topper: “Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You”, and “Why Can’t We be Friends?”  it will be a vast improvement over what Arafatians now call education.

This suggestion might have a chance if there wasn’t the Arafatian mafia type tactics against it’s own people to violently threaten and coerce the Arafatians into Arafat’s evil ways. I for one, fervently prey that Jesus Christ save them, for without him and his miracles they are lost and will bring down the whole world with them.

Dakota Gal!!! What a great point!!! Spielberg made one of the most critically acclaimed movies in cinema history. One of the best movies I ever saw. One of the biggest money makers ever. Certainly a top 100 or top 50 or even top 10 in every category on anybody's list (pardon the pun.)

And let's not forget that no small part of its success was its capitalizing on the enormous emotion and pity and sympathy and pathos and guilt attached to the holocaust.

So---GOOD QUESTION, DG!!!! Where is SS NOW?????????? Couldn't he take a FEW of his enormous bucks that he contributes to a variety of causes and demand that this NEW MASS SLAUGHTER of jews stop? (I ask that, again, rhetorically and very tongue-in-cheek, because we know the answer.....it's the same reason you didn't see an American flag pin or colors or bunting at the Oscars, for example...not ONE ANYWHERE, among THOUSANDS of people....)

Well, here's an article posted on FR that explains...

They only hold fund-raisers for issues that can be blamed on America, bug business, or the West (not necessarily correctly, of course... it's only important that they be accused). They'll protest for Global Warming, whales, the environment, social causes, AIDS, breast cancer, etc...

Genocide, slavery, bloody dictatorships, Muslim 'conversion' techniques, paying children to become suicide bombers... all too messy, can't be blamed the popular scapegoats, and aren't covered enough on CNN to get them the attention/adoration they want.
