Particularly up in Spain, but also in Egypt. They got along quite well in many cases.

When you say all religions are false, do you include politcal philosphies, too? I'd say the majority of Green Party/Progressives and environmentalists qualify as religions. They have a tendency to have faith in pretty outlandish, unproven things. They seem to gravitate toward religions like Buddhism, Hinduism and various pagan (ie earth mother worship) beliefs.

Before you go bashing all religions, you should take a look at the belief structure of some of the most destructive and oppressive political systems. For example, Communism was obviously very anti-religious. And Communism is responsible for the slaugher of millions of people, and the Russian soldiers during WWII had a reputation for being extremely brutal to civilians. I've heard first hand accounts that at the end of the war, when the Germans were defeated, many people (including whole families) committed suicide out of fear when they heard the Russian soldiers were catching up to them. Then take a look at Hitler's National Socialist party. Some people still associate the Nazis to Christianity, but the Nazis were actually heavily influenced by pagan beliefs. And there is no irony in the fact that Hitler had great respect for Islam. He recognized that Islam justified the type of brutality and dictatorship that Hitler wanted for the Nazis. My parents are Christians and lived under the Nazi government. And they would describe the atmosphere as outwardly religious, but hostile towards God. Because under the Nazi government Hitler and Germany came before God. My mother's sixth grade teacher had her whole class ridicule her and call her a Jew-lover because she defended her faith. One of her uncles was beaten up for quoting from the Bible during a funeral service. And they saw what the Nazis did to the Jews.

Anyhow, my point is: before you bash the faith of others, be very careful what you are putting your faith in. Just because a belief system does not involve God does not make it better or more evolved than religious faith.

What are you going to do when you are weak willed and simple minded. Yes, that day is coming!

The fool has said in his heart, there is no God.

The decimal system was an Indian invention, hence the term 'Hindu-Arabic' numerals. The Arabs just adopted it and brought it to the West.

Not only are you correct, but evidence for the earliest known usage of the decimal system is from the ancient Vedic texts, which date back as far as possibly 1000 BC.

Your post in informative, and the information I've read inclines me to believe it, but it would stand up against criticism a little better if you'd cite the source. Thanks.

He was serving his nation which was at a war not of its own choosing. The Russians and the French started it.

Um, not exactly. The Austrians started it (although one could argue that the Serbs share the blame), which caused all of the alliances to kick in. This resulted in a chain reaction starting with Russia, then Germany, France and England.

If the Arabic peoples are not out there winning secular awards, maybe it's because they are more interested in spiritual endeavors.

Yeah. That must be it. Spiritual endeavors. Like killing Israelis, Americans, Christians and Hindus around the world.

Maybe its because they send their wives into the fields to tend the crops and their kids into the streets to beg while they sit in the local cafe drinking tea and picking their toenails.

You know, when you put it that way, it doesn't sound half bad.

I'm glad to see others coming forward with results to a search for the facts. What you've asserted as fact looks suspiciouly like more muslim propaganda. (Something like Algore's claim of inventing the internet.) I hope you find it to be an eye-opener and a valuable contribution to truth.

If propaganda works, it is because it is accepted as truth. In my training in physics and math I have noted the texts usually have footnotes of small biographies of the persons who originated the particular method or theory under discussion. It adds an extra dimension, a feel for what was developed before something else and in what country it was developed. Optics, as it happens, is an area where I have done some work, and Snell's Law is basic to one branch of optics. We would assume that the law is named for the person who developed it as is the custom in science. But we are always interested when we learn that someone came before. It is immaterial whether the earlier someone is of any particular religion or from any particular region, although that is of interest if we enjoy tracing the development of math and science in a historical sense. That's all it is, nothing more.

It is a spiritual endeavour. It's just that the spirit that informs them is Satan.

LOL! That's great! Except... the spirit's name has to sound more arabic: maybe the title Beelzebub would accommodate the language barrier.

Lots of algebra was invented by Muslims. The word itself is Arabic. So were the principles of navigation that allowed Europeans to conquer the world once they recovered from the dark ages. Azimuth, for instance, is Arabic.

They weren't always as they are now.

The Chinese are another great example of a once-advanced people hobbled by their own stagnant culture. They went from inventing eastern civilization to reverse-engineering trinkets and eating their own.

As I noted in another thread where this list first appeared, at least one of the persons listed as Muslim, Elias James Corey, is an Arab Christian. My guess is that more on the list of Muslims are not actually Muslim, such as Camus and Medewar, but I'm not as sure about them as I am Corey. Let's not conflate being Arab and being Muslim.

Fritz Haber invented modern nitrogen fertilizer. This is his most important scientific contribution. Before Haber ships were sent to far off islands that were laden down with guano.

Hitler's mother's maiden name was Schicklegruber. It's possible, though inconclusive, that he had Jewish origins.

Your post is another good example of what I am complaining about.

The name was Schickelgruber (so spelled). A typical Austrian / South German name, not a Jewish one.

There is no evidence that Hitler had Jewish origins. But don't let that stop you from engaging in irresponsible rumor-mongering.
