Breaking. Footage (dramatic) shown on the previous night's national TV news in Japan. New TV footage of three foot high barbed wire being urgently rigged up, circling the entire front entrances of the Japanese Consulate and US Consulate (adjacent properties) in Shenyang, China and uniformed police as well as plainclothes 'gonganju' secret operatives now posted 10 meters apart, also sharp tire puncture studs to prevent an further storming of Consulates by defecting North Koreans.

Been on vaction for a week. Could you give a few more details? What happened to NK at the Japanesse embassy?

From what I understand some NK asylum seekers were dragged out of the embassy by chinese police

Right. And the pwoplw working in the embassey just stood and watched as the Chinese police came INTO the embassey and got them. I am curious if the embassey "workers" were all Japanese or if some were "local." What a shame, and sad for the people seeking asylum. I don't quite understand why now for all the NK people. And why so many in China... businessmen?

I thought embassy property was sovereign territory. We keep armed Marine guards at ours. If the Chinese police went into the Canadian embassy, they'd have had to be invited officially, right? What up w/that?

That's what the problem was. The Chinese broke all rules and invaded the embassy, AND the embassy workers allowed them to enter, withOUT a fight. The consulate workers were criticized by the Japanese state department for doing nothing - but of course, NOTHING has happened to China. China just doesn't play by the rules, and no country seems to have the backbone to make them! And so it grows more egregious... Hmm, similar to our classrooms.

Further, we could set up long narrow plexiglass enclosed walkways with multiple cameras that forced all their spies to be very visible coming and going.

China plays a dangerous game if they are confident that Japan will always have its tail between its legs. They may awaken a sleeping giant.

Agree. The Japanese, though hamstrung in many regards by post WW2 restrictions, have plenty of plans ready that would use cyberwarfare and other superior technologies to assymmetically spank the Chinese asses.

I guess china figured it better cover the embassies in barbed wire before half their population gets ideas from the North Koreans... that's something some Chinese policemen really couldn't stop.

The Japanese TV footage, shot the day before yesterday from within the Consulate looking out to the street, reminds one of the images of East German border guards hurredly constructing the Berlin Wall. One of the previous posters put a photo of barbed wire. The wire I saw was in addition to it; talk, like tumblewees, being stretched along the sidewalk. One uniformed policemen is shouting in Chinese, 'hurry up!. pull the wire! pull the wire!' as they rapidly get it into place.

They have cleverly moved all visitors to the Japan consulate ACROSS the boulevard, in a singlefile line. They let one Chinese at a time now cross the boulevard to be inspected a second time before going in. No groups of dashing freedom seekers will be allowed anywhere near the front gate of the Consulates. That goes for the barbed wire and increased Chinese Police guards that have sprung up around the US consulate there in Shenyang, too.

This is a Far East Berlin wall. The photos and videos should be shown far and wide in advance of the Olympics.

North Koreans stormed the Japanese consulate in the city of Shenyang, China while you were away from FR and the internet. The Red Chinese police, however, stormed into the Consulate (even into the inner recesses of the visa office) to retrieve and take out the defectors. They are in diplomatic limbo. The pulled out one woman and her child (the woman is five months pregnant, no less!) It was a horrific video and site to see this. Looked like the Elian seizure.

It is less likely the defecting refugees now will be sent to DPRK (north korea) because everyone is watching. They would be executed if they did. However, now the issue is how to save face and get them to a third country. In the meantime, Japan is in a fierce internal fight over how this happened and the poor response of the Japanese consular officials on site who were very soft in their response.
