"There should have been bells and whistles going off," Sen. John Edwards D-N.C., a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, told ABC's "Good Morning America." "My question is, was this information communicated to a central source? Was action taken — was any action taken as a result of the people in Phoenix sending their memo — the FBI people in Phoenix?"

What a friggin dummy. He is part of this intellignce committee and does not know what he received. They are ALL covering their asses today.

Shelby also questioned why the White House waited so long to acknowledge Bush's knowledge of the hijacking threat. He said of the warning: "I think it should have been acted on, but it wasn't."

If HIS committee received the SAME general warning, then why didn't THEY come forward with the info????

Bush = Scapegoat of the century.

This is another example of pack "journalism" similar to the early hyperventilation about Enron. Once all the facts are on the table, there will be many parts of government to "blame" for the breakdowns relating to 9/11. Tops on my list is INS, not the FBI.

I just saw that idiot Gephardt on Fox. My only question is this: if he knew (like all other senators) of a general warning, why didn't he warn the people in the WTC? Why didn't Shelby?

Because NO ONE could have foreseen the incomprehensible acts of that day. If Gephardt had a crystal ball, maybe he could have.

His press conference just reaffirms to me that the dems are grasping at straws. they have no answer to Bush's approval ratings.

If blame can be placed on Bush for 911, then it can be placed squarely on Dick Gephardt as well.

10-4. It was all Bush's fault. Sue him. Git rid of him. He knew. Of course, Osama called him on his pager and warned him and he REFUSED to do anything about it. Of course. Sure he did. Keep it up rats. We will believe you if you spout it long enough. Pukes.

AMEN! I hope to high Heaven someone calls them on this. If they blame Bush, they are equally to blame.

9-11 was an intelligence COORDINATION failure. Had there been a central homeland defense agency that got raw intell of any credible treats to Americans here or abroad, it could have been put together and the proper conclusions drawn. That is what Bush is now trying to put together and trying to get Congress to authorize.

The prior 9-11 intell wasn't acted on as it was coming in by little bits and no one saw the big picture. Also, a peacetime mindset is not one that works. We now know we are at war and we cannot let our guard down.

Yep. Man, I hope Rush comes back to his senses today and backs the President on this. The first thing I want to hear Rush say is, 'if Gephart and Shelby KNEW of this same general warning, then why didn't THEY tell the public?'

I agree. The best thing to come of 9-11 (other than renewed faith and patriotism) is that we now know that the FBI, CIA and INS are in need of a major overhaul.

This will go down as just more partisan hyperventilating by the dems and their cohorts in the media.

Yesterday the rant was about pictures that are in the public domain, today they attach the same hysteria to the warnings.

None of it makes sense but they keep on keeping on.

A reporter on MSNBC, who read the FBI memo, said the memo does not state that there ARE terrorists training in flight schools. He stated that the flight schools MAY be used and these flight schools may need to be monitored in the future...

I think the press will move on to another story much asEnron will die. The dems will fan this fire big time, but when the facts come out, Bush will still be standing. He may have to wipe the mud off of him but I suspect the DUmmies wet dream will be short lived much as Enron was.

Notice how the AP quotes Richard Shelby, a Republican in the second sentence and tucked wayyyyy down at the bottom the head of the senate committee is mentioned as Graham from FL. If they want to hold hearings the very first people they need to call are Frank Church and all the democrats in Congress who voted time and time again to cut defense and intelligence spending from the 80's. Of course, none of this will happen and they will just put on a Stalin show trial.

This is what I was just thinking when I saw a crawler on Fox which said that the Dems had received the same warning. If it were not specific enough for them to do anything, then why do they expect anyone else to have a crystal ball and see the future. MamaB

"...'pack' journalism."

Exactly. And if the FBI or any other agency had hassled these muslim flight students for acting "suspiciously," AP and all the rest would have screamed "profiling!" and "racism!" (unless Clinton were still in office).

Could you just imagine the uproar if the FBI/CIA practiced Reno-like gestapo practices and went and pulled every muslim out of flight schools? The media (and liberals) would have had a field day.
