Bob Johnson, Chairman of the Free Republic Network, announced today that the organization had received the groups IRS authorization letter establishing them as 501-C-4 non profit corporation.
Johnson said, "Obtaining non profit status as a public benefit educational corporation was one of our primary goals when developing the strategy for this organization. Although we would have preferred pursuing a C-3 status which would have allowed tax deductible donations from contributors, the C-4 allows us to engage in increased levels of social and legislative advocacy which is one of the primary objectives of our members, affiliates and partners."
The Free Republic Network is dedicated to providing education, information, tools and resources to conservative grass roots activist groups.

What limitations are also imposed as a non-profit org?
To: Bob J
You're talking in third person. Sir Gawain thinks that's weird.

Cool! I've been wanting to form a grass-roots conservative activist group, made up primarily of guys named Chad who are still plenty ticked off at the left wing for giving us a bad name - We'll call ourselves "C.H.A.D" (Chad Hates All Democrats) - I'm STILL tired of being blamed for everything, and by God they are gonna pay... oh yes, they will pay... bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahaa
Anyway, I digress... congrats to all who worked to make this happen - I think FRN is going to be very successful at what it does :0)

Congratulations BUMP!

A C-4 cannot engage in direct activities to elect individual candidates, including fundraising. However, they can educate their members on the positions of various candidates. Social issue and legislative activism is ok.

I don't mean to insult you or Free Republic Network. But this mean that Free Republic Network is now a lobbist organization?
To: Sir Gawain
This language is from a press release. It does look kinda weird though...

I think it was a 501(c)(3). Just depends on how you use your funds. I think he got a bum rap.
