I was about 15 years old when Red had his show on TV. Those June Taylor dancers danced through my head a lot back then. I actually feel sorry for the MTV generation. There are NO mysteries left for them to discover. On the rare occasions I do watch TV I prefer TV Land or Nick at Nite. As for MTV? I think Jeff Foxworthy best described such things in his discription of a Victoria's Secret Catalog. He said "Appears to me Victoria ain't got any secrets left."

THIS OLE HOUSE
Composer/songwriter : Stuart Hamblen (whose competing version managed only #26)
Publishers : Duchess Music Ltd.) Highest Position : #1. Weeks on chart : 23
Recorded : May 22, 1954
Flip side of her "Hey There" which also hit # 1
This ole house once knew his children
This ole house once knew his wife
This ole house was home and comfort
As they fought the storms of life
This old house once rang with laughter
This old house heard many shouts
Now he trembles in the darkness
When the lightnin' walks about
[Chorus]
Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer
Ain't a-gonna need this house no more
Ain't got time to fix the shingles
Ain't got time to fix the floor
Ain't got time to oil the hinges
Nor to mend the window-pane
Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer
He's a-gettin' ready to meet the saints
This ole house is a-gettin' shaky
This ole house is a-gettin' old
This ole house lets in the rain
This ole house lets in the cold
Oh his knees are-a gettin' chilly
But he feel no fear or pain
'Cause he sees an angel peekin'
Through a broken window-pane
[Chorus]
This ole house is afraid of thunder
This ole house is afraid of storms
This ole house just groans and trembles
When the night wind flings its arms
This ole house is a-gettin' feeble
This old house is a-needin' paint
Just like him it's tuckered out
But he's a-gettin' ready to meet the saints
[Chorus]
Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer
Ain't a-gonna need this house no more
Ain't got time to fix the shingles
Ain't got time to fix the floor
Ain't got time to oil the hinges
Nor to mend the window-pane
Ain't a-gonna need this house no longer
He's a-gettin' ready to meet the saints

Wasn't she famous for singing 'God Bless America'?
Here's the... link(ole house)---for her most... famous/requested---songs!

Vaughan Monroe, 1911-1973. Ghost riders in the sky is certainly a part of the song for which he was best known, but the title of the song was just Riders In The Sky.

Thanks that songs one of my favorites. I never heard her sing it but learned it as a kid. My dad has taught me a bunch of folk songs & ballads dating back to the 1930's that I've learned to play. Many were born of the Great Depression. Hopefully more are learning these songs so they aren't lost forever.

She was among the last of a diappearing breed. The popular singer so good she could break your heart.
Rosemary Clooney singing "Tenderly" made everything stop for awhile.
In a world where popular music of all kinds is now just so much crap, she knew how to sing a song.

Another of her era is Patti Page (Tennessee Waltz, etc).
Patti Page lived in a boxcar down by the railroad track in Garden City (across the river from Tulsa). The first thing she did when she got some money was to buy her parents a house in Carbondale (also across the river from Tulsa). Good lady. She was born in 1927, so she won't be around much longer either.

The news was the news 30 minutes local and 30 national. And to let you know just how old I am, I remember when the national news was 15 mins. Guess what, that's all it takes to give you the news anyway. Today's "newscasts" are nothing more than schlock. POV's masquerading as news. Crapola. (Off soapbox)

May she rest in peace.
For those who don't know, Rosemary Clooney sings "Mambo Italiano" as the theme song to the movie "Married to the Mob". It's a good movie because Alec Baldwin gets rubbed out early in the film.

Mother in law of Debbie Boone. Hope she's remembered for more than Coronet toilet tissue commercials.

She had a great voice and I loved her in the movie "White Christmas". Rest in Peace Rosemary.

My favorite was Gertrude and Heathcliff. Loved when Red did that! Still makes me smile!

"She was great in airplane 2: the sequel. "What's his problem?" "He thinks he's Rosemary Clooney.""
I think you have her confused with the late, great, Ethel Merman !

Saw her perform in '61. Whatta singer.
Years later she went into semi-retirement, with the whole music scene going to rock 'n roll with the British Invasion and so forth.
But years after that, and after various episodes of personal difficulty, she came back.
Here's the cover of a 1983 album done with the late Woody Herman:

Some of the material is traditional, such as "I'm Beginning to See the Light" (Ellington/George/Hodges/James), but some of it was written long after her hit parade days, such as my favorite on the album "Summer Knows" (Bergman/Bergman/LeGrand), "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight" (Taylor), and "You've Made Me So Very Happy" (Gordy/Holloway/Holloway/Wilson).
What an album, from, if you will, a Grand Diva of jazz/pop.
