Her last long-term relationship ended in disaster. Andrew Sasson, her onetime boyfriend, testified against her to the grand jury, saying she was visibly drunk at the time.

She also said she regrets not spending more "necessary quality" time with her mother, Yvette Grubman, who died last year after a long bout with ovarian cancer.

"At a time when my mother needed me most, I was distracted by legal proceedings, negative publicity and a never-ending workload from clients," said Grubman, daughter of music-industry lawyer Allen Grubman.

"I also didn't want her to see how sad I was."

Yeah, we don't need to worry about how those 16 people you injured by your irresponsible acts had to suffer - that's right, YOU'RE the victim.

G$%@##$%m Liberals can NEVER accept responsiblity....

I agree heartily with your identification of "noblesse oblige" as a curb on the otherwise predatory habits of the powerful. But, I am of the opinion that this can only be fostered in a relatively monocultural society (where the elites and the common man are arguably part of the same ethnic family).

The wealthy and powerful must be taught from their earliest education that they have a moral responsiblity that comes along with their wealth and power (I'm talking about a culturally and socially encouraged responsibility...not the phoney "responsbility" of socialism/redistribution....I'm talking about "nobility" in the best, old sense of the term).

Since the obvious impulse of the rich and powerful is to use their wealth and power to continue to accumulate more...this "noblesse oblige" is not something that is intuitive...but is rather something that must be taught by the person's parents, church, educators, etc. The case for this sort of thing is much easier to make when the downtrodden in a given society are of the same tribal unit as the powerful.

In a fragmented, multicultural society such as ours, there is neither the educational/cultural coherence to encourage such behavior...nor is there the argument from "tribal/extended family responsibility".

The result is uncultured, arrogant monsters like the above Ms. Grubman.

>It's also worth noting that since she has pleaded guilty to a crime, none of the damages that she'll have to pay as a result of these lawsuits will be covered by her insurance company.

Is that true? I mean a drunk driver kills some people and POOF! No tort, no claims. It seems the insurance company won't insure Grubman from the suits, but it would end up paying anyway. It would have to try to recover the judgements from Grubman.

This may vary from state to state, but it is my understanding that most liability insurance policies specifically state that no claim will be paid in the event the claim arises from an incident in which the insured is guilty of a criminal offense.

I'd be interested to hear what any lawyers or insurance people on FreeRepublic have to say about it.

Well said! Korsokoff's syndrome is what? And you gotta love the little skank's priorities: "Mummy is dying, I think I will go drink and run over peasants."

Probably rides a bicycle and wants all SUVs taken to the junkyard.

It's worse than you think.

I don't own a bicycle, rollerblades or even one of those damned scooters. I get around this town mostly on foot.

My driver's license is strictly ID.

Interesting you should say "coked-up". That's what I thought initially too. A little too much coke with her cocktails. She just seemed a bit too frenzied for booze alone.

She's an artist too and I don't have to tell you about them.

Some artists are admirable people. Failed artists are usually that way because they are untalented. So they become bitter and spend their time lasing out at those for whom life has worked out.
