NEW YORK (AP) -- The Masters is going commercial-free, dropping its corporate sponsors to avoid pressure on them by a women's organization that challenged Augusta National's all-male membership.

Club chairman Hootie Johnson on Friday notified the tournament's three sponsors -- IBM, Citigroup and Coca-Cola -- that the Masters "will not request their participation" in 2003.

The women don't care about single sex clubs, organizations or whatever as long as they are not very successful. They have no desire to join these low profile clubs to help them have more diverse opinions or help build the club or in any way do work to make things better. However, once you be come a successful, high profile single sex club, that's when all hell breaks loose because they want a piece of the action. They want only the best and to hell with the rest because they want to steal part of the sweat equity that it took men years to develope.

This is so great, now why don't we file a civil suit against the government for funding organizations that use our tax money to bully private clubs, organizations whose stupid ideas do not fly with the majority of Americans?

Why is our money wrenched from our pockets to support enemies of our culture? Enemies who attack private ownership, the will of the majority, the Constitution should find no money to sustain their loopy ideas at tax payers expense.

Even if they had a written rule excluding
all females, why would it matter to you?

It's the lying that passes me by.  If that's
the way they want to run the club, be
honest about it.  It is exclusionary.  We
can deal with that.  If they feel the need
to lie about it,   that tells a story, too.

I agree, it does, The story it tells is that they're trying to avoid an attack. one they don't deserve, by other liars, who are also thieves and con/shakedown artists. If I had a terrorist with a gun at my head asking me if I was a Jew, and I was one, I'd lie my tail off.

It may seem like hair-splitting to you, but it really is not.

If you have a gentleman's golf club--as opposed to a more family oriented facility--why would it even occur to you to admit a woman? One doesn't need an exclusionary policy, not to change the character of your club. You are implying that they have an unstated, negative rule. Looking backwards from this off the wall attack, that may seem to be the case. But this is an off the wall attack. Was it anticipated in 1933, or whenever the club was set up. I don't think so. The idea of admitting women to men's clubs and men to women's clubs is part of the post Lyndon Johnson, "Great Society"--a true historic aberration, which America needs to be done with.

"it's their business, leave them alone"

I seem to recall him saying that at first; before the British Open started. However, after he lost didn't he post on his official website that Augusta should allow women members?

I don't know. You are probably right dear child. But Tiger Woods was INVITED to play in the Masters just as all of the field of 150 or so. It is a PRIVATE tournament. The TV cameras came second ,as did the corporate sponsorships. The tournament committe doesn't care if the world watches. It is a PRIVATE tournament. The club is a PRIVATE club. When it comes right down to it, they can have the tournament without TV or a gallery. It probably would be fine with them. And the field would play for prestige only. Money would not be a consideration. It never was or will be at the Masters.
