The first couple of video cameras had essentially stock vidicon camera tubes, which were subject to damage from really intense light sources like the Sun, especially unshielded by an atmosphere.

The engineers realized this problem after the first mission and changed to the then-new version of the vidicon with a silicon diode target, which was essentially immune to the burnout effect.

Then, they went color, with a system that used a single camera and tube, but with a synchronized filter wheel with red, green, and blue segments. The sequential color frames were then converted into standard color TV back at Mission Control. If you watched objects go across the screen rapidly, you would see them, or their edges, break up into the three colors.

Ironically, the above system was essentially what the FCC had originally approved for color broadcasting back in 1950, but never implemented. Three years later, they adopted the system that we are still using for color broadcast.

Sibrel, 37, said he reported the assault to police and was seeking an assault charge against the 72-year-old astronaut

Yep, you da man Sibrel, you da man!

Hope Buzz raised your IQ with that thump, chump!

I'd like to see Mamzelle reply to that without bitterness. But I do have a life---maybe in the next one, heh?

Mamzelle,

Underwelmed by "ex-astronaut" achievments?

Numerous former astronauts went on to found, head or at least participate as a director in numerous private and public companies. One ran for President. Three become Senators. Several wrote best selling books. Nearly all have been active in charitable organizations. Several have gone on to make significant technical accomplishments.

Buzz himself has accomplished many of the achievements listed above. He also climbed out of the pit of depression after consistently being reminded that he was merely the 2nd man to land on the Moon.

Guys like Buzz expect a lot from themselves and don't take kindly to those who belittle their sacrifies, just to gin up some quick cash playing upon weak minds.

There's a certain irony in a man who doubts camera evidence saying to a man with a camera, "Did you get that?"

You are correct. Some Apollo astronauts, like Buzz, Harrison Schmitt, Pete Conrad and Joe Allen have gone on outside of NASA to move the space development ball forward.

Buzz through his space tourism advocacy, planetary cycler technology, alternative US/Russian space station design (which ISS ended up emulating) and reuseable launch vehicle designs.

Harrison Schmitt through his lunar Helium3 mining technology.

Pete Conrad through his lead on the innovative DC-X launch vehicle and plans for the follow-on Delta Clipper for both commercial and military (SDIO) use. Pete also founded a reuseable launch vehicle company and satellite control and communicatitions company before his untimely death.

Joe Allen headed a company, Space Services Inc. that launched the first privately financed and launched rocket back in 1984 off the Texas coast.

Also Byron Lichtenberg, a shuttle era astronaut has been active in space tourism and lunar exploration companies as well.

Not bad for a bunch of jet jocks. :)

LOL. I said on another forum that I want to be in charge of Buzz's defense in the unlikely event he goes to trial.

First I show Sibrel's first "we didn't go to the moon" video, full of "this shot is obviously faked" garbage. I then show his video evidence and start in with the "you can easily see this is a fake....."

The idea of using his own technique against him makes me laugh.

Sibrel: "You are a coward and a liar...
That's what Sibrel and the rest of that "Apollo hoax" trash are saying about Buzz and the rest of the heroes who we sent to the Moon and safely returned. The only hoax about the moon landings is the idea that they were hoaxed.
