Joe Lieberman Comes Out as the FIRST DEM HAWK, PLans to Lead the Way on Senate Resolution of Force
FOX News | 9/13/2002 | LS

Posted on 09/13/2002 4:43:29 PM PDT by LS

On Fox, Joe Lieberman said he would introduce a resolution in the SENATE calling for use of force against Iraq. By so doing, he not only becomes the leading DEM "hawk" (obviously looking for the "Scoop Jackson" mantle) but now makes "Puff" Dascle's hopes of postponing this vote almost nil.

This is Lieberman's 2004 campaign, right here. He is gambling that the war will be a success, and that he can separate himself from the pack on military issues. Clever, and he, I think, is right. I can't see "Puff's" stall tactics working now, at all.

I agree. His being a Jew may affect his views on this issue as well. At least SOME of his core beliefs may override politics. I sure hope so. I like to think that nobody is ALL bad.

You could be right. On the other hand, he may wait for somebody to convince him to change his mind. Then he would seem very reasonable to the peaceniks and undecideds both.

Or am I too paranoid when it comes to DNC tactics and Holy Joe?

I am down with you on this. His core views and his religion are a help here.

I used to have a lot of respect for Joe-- until he sold his soul as Algore's running mate.

Maybe he is buying it back.

I like to think that nobody is ALL bad.

Used to be my philosophy too. That was until I got a new senator 2 years ago.

Unfortunately, the answer is, sadly, no.

Just look at his numerous policy 180's he did when he was on the Sore/Loserman ticket.

It's nice to see he's not backing down on this issue, however....

though I don't like their politics, I do have to say both Lieberman and McCain have been SOLID in their support of the military (McCain MUCH MORE because of his personal experience, Lieberman for the political gain)...

You're not paranoid at all.

Everything the Dems do is political first, national interest second (or fourth, or ninth, or whatever).

My guess is that he's trying to show that the Dems are not lockstep in their obstructionism, opening the door for an "honest debate" that doesn't pin ANYTHING on Daschle or the Dems as a party ("Hey...one of our leading guys is with the Prez on this!")

I can hear it now.

I appreciate whatever help ol' Joe can be to the prez. Because, let's face it, ol' Joe will never be a threat. No one wants to elect a guy who looks like Mr. Magoo and whines like weenie.

It plays to Israels long term advantage for us to hammer Saddam (a little short term Scud action though). Loserman is just the CongressJew playing his roll.

Keep in mind his wife is a registered lobbyist for some Israeli interests ( a hospital, some sort of scrap business in Texas that turned into a giant conglomerate, etc. )I'm not sure where Israel stands on the question of Iraq - ( they have quite a bit of dissent on almost everything, from what I head in Ha'aretz ), but I guess his wife's involvement might influence him to some degree.

This all about politics. Nothing else. Joe is trying to get out in front of this issue. He can smell which way the wind is blowing and it is blowing for an invasion. Enough said.

That was my first thought as well.

Lieberman is not stupid, he see's the writing on the wall and he knows if anyone is going to have a chance against Bush in 'O4, he had better be on board and on board early.

Personally, I hope daschle does all he can to continue taking the stance that he is now taking. If he does, then the Republican Senatorial candidate in S.D. will greatly increase his chance of winning and possibly Daschle will be TOAST.

I guess Joe didn't get the DU memo: he's supposed to stall, raise the bar, act concerned, have questions, etc., until after the elections.
