September 18, 2002 -- FIFTY years ago today, the New York Post published an article that led to one of the most memorable speeches in American history and forever changed the nature of this nation's politics.

Decades before Watergate, a furor over ethics almost ended the career of then-Sen. Richard Nixon. And his spectacular recovery has important lessons for New Jersey's Sen. Bob Torricelli, another pol fighting for his political life in the wake of an ethics mess.

I can see it now the Torch saying: "And I just want to say this, right now, that regardless of what they say about it, we're going to keep the big screen TV and Antiques."

Does anybody in Jersey read the New York Post?

I mean, if the facts were on the table and people were willing to face them and really judge the issues, how many Democrats would there actually be in Washington?

Maybe the Torch had to sell the big screen TV to pay for an operation to save a stray tabby cat (named Mr. Whiskers, perhaps), who had been hit by a car. But they have become attached to the cat, and will have to keep it.

Yeah, that'll work.

I think on their commute into NYC or back to Jersey, they do...

Dissapointingly, no mention or followup of the Torch's continued support for an organization listed on the Terror watch(National Council of Resistance, a front for the People's Mujahedin of Iran) list by the State Department in the New York Post's 09-17-02 article yesterday. See http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/752273/posts for the continuing discussion.

On that thread, Congressman Billybob reminded NJ(indeed, East Coast)FReepers what we ought to do come the first sign of exit poll numbers showing the defeat of Terror-Celli and I'll quote him as follows:

"get the word out immediately. Get it on FreeRepublic. Get it on all possible major chat rooms. And urge everyone who hears the news to GET IT ON AFTERNOON TALK RADIO."

Garrett/Forrester BUMP!

GET IT ON AFTERNOON TALK RADIO

Bob Grant was all over this story yesterday. He has a lot of New Jersey fans. He even helped derail Cuomo by getting the word out.

Last sentence says it all. The media despises T and they are going to let everyone know it. My guess is that the NYSlimes will endorse Forrester in the election.

Before you think I'm smoking something, let me remind you that they endorsed Bob Franks against Corzine.

I wonder why that was too. Endorsement of Franks. Corzine is so liberal it isn't funny.

The NYT endorsement was based partly on Corzine's flagrant use of extravagant sums of money to finance his own campaign. The Times called it irresponsible and worried that it smacked of old time machine politics.
It's hard to predict hat they'll do this time....they seem to be caught between a rock & a hard place....my guess is that they'll not endorse either one ( they lose ALL credibility if they endorse the Torch ). That turns to a net gain for Doug ( unless Torch's people cackle about the Franks endorsement and wonder why Doug can't get the same ).

In case you haven't seen yesterday's thread about the Traitor Torch's long time love affair with a terrorist organization please go to this link. (Torch, the Traitor, has been bought out by Islamo Fascists for years)

We should dress up like Arabs and hold up signs saying, "We Support Torricelli" and thank you Sen. Torricelli.

I just hope the forrester camp. does somthing about this and and also pointing out Torch's mob activites. Many people do not read the papers and the campaign literature will help.

There is an old saying, " Show me your company and I will tell you what you are" so I must use conjecture and say that the 99 other senators are just as bad as the torch since they did not throw him out and have allowed him to be called a Senator and represent NJ as a Senator in the Senate. Hear that Trent Lott.

Yes, his silence is making him look bad and more guilty. Good. He has no defense. Now Forrester must attack both Torch's corruption and voting record. I have yet to receive a piece in the mail exposing either.

Torch's long time affair with Bianca Jagger led him to reveal the name of a CIA operative in Central America. This revelation led to the death of the man.

Torch said he revealed the classified information with permission of Gephardt.

This sounds like a great freep by NJ Freepers: <"We should dress up like Arabs and hold up signs saying, "We Support Torricelli" and thank you Sen. Torricelli.

Ron Dog just this week dressed up like a wh$re to role play Gray Davis in a great freep on the West Coast. Maybe Ron could post the link.

This is another reason to rank Gephardt as one of the worse in Congress:

Torch said he revealed the classified information with permission of Gephardt (which resulted in the murder of a CIA operative!).

Gephardt and Leahy seem to be cut of the same cloth. Oilcloth!

That was a gem, Coleus. I don't think I have the right shade eyeshadow or lip stick. The fake beard, no problem. Turban, I can work something out.

I'm still rather fond of the idea of chartering 3 buses for the Palestinian community of Patterson, providing the usual pro-Pali regalia(like I'd need to) including pro-Terror-Celli signs and setting the Terror-celli support demonstrations to coincide with the arrival of President Bush at Mercer County Airport on the 23rd.

I agree that more campaign literature and ads hammering away at the Torch's underbelly will definitely help in spreading the word. Certainly, a few major tv cameos would not hurt either. Also, wider local television coverage of the debates could be another key factor in exposing the Torch. A purely superficial view of the two candidates side-by-side would put Doug on top for the aesthetically-inclined voters...
