Gore in California Speech Warns Against Iraq Attack

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Former Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore came out strongly on Monday against any "precipitous" U.S. attack on Iraq, saying the Bush administration has embarked on a dangerous course that could alienate allies and derail the war on terror.

"If you are going after Jesse James you ought to organize the posse first," Gore said in a speech to the Commonwealth Club of California.

He added, 'We should focus first and foremost on our top priority -- winning the war against terrorism."

I saw USA Today's Susan Page on one of the cable nets today talking about how Gore has the stature to criticise an attack on Iraq because he voted for the Gulf War. What she neglected to mention is that Gore sold his vote. Interesting omission on her part.

And Iraq has nothing to do with terrorism? It hasn't paid terrorist families who's sons have been suicide/murder bombers? It doesn't give protection to terrorists? Hussein, himself, isn't a terrorist threat?

Thank God Gore isn't President.....there's nothing between his ears. I cannot imagine how many more innocent Americans would have died by now, in the United States alone, had he succeeded in stealing the Presidency.

(09-23) 15:06 PDT SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- ...SNIP...  Gore urged Congress not to give the president such a broad mandate.

"It needs to be narrowed," said Gore, adding that Congress should urge Bush to go back to the U.N. Security Council and secure the "broadest possible international support" for a regime change in Iraq.

Meanwhile, Gore said, "Bush should not allow anything to distract us from the mission of avenging the murder of 3,000 Americans."

Also Monday, former President Carter criticized Bush's stance on Iraq, saying military action without the blessing of the United Nations would be a grave mistake that would put America in danger.

"I'm quite concerned" about the White House's pursuit of Saddam Hussein without the support of many of its allies from the Persian Gulf War, Carter said after a speech at the University of Virginia.

"It is a radical departure from traditions that have shaped our nation's policy by Democratic and Republican presidents for more than 50 years," Carter told reporters.

Gore's comments will be irrelevant by the 2004 election, because by then there will have been regime change in Iraq. His comments will be relevant only in the sense of a reminder to voters of what a complete dolt he is.
