[history]
The South Carolina Republican, who rarely speaks during committee meetings, admonished Democrats for promising him a vote during this congressional session, which is coming to a close.
"I took you at your word," Mr. Thurmond said. "In 40 years, I have never been treated in such a manner. I am hurt and disappointed by your actions. I do not find your actions satisfactory."

Poor Strom, looking for the manners of a bygone day. Today's dims have discarded even the semblance of truth or decency.

Leahy is a pond sucking leach, the republicans are spineless when it comes to pay back and they wonder why I throw their fund letters in the trash.

Leahy is in trouble. When word that he lied to his Republican colleagues gets out, oh, will his cook ever be goosed. Like ever getting caught in a lie ever meant a darned thing to him. He breathes lies, that is his oxygen.
To: rface
They're just pissed because he went against them in the impeachment...
...of Andrew Johnson.
To: alloysteel
I doubt it. Vermont voters could care less about Strom Thurmond, I'm afraid. Plus they may not even hear about it, since so far this story is only seeing daylight in a few conservative news sources.
Lying means a lot to honorable people, but liberals think that honor is an outmoded concept.
I agree it's despicable, but the Dems know very well that their hardcore supporters don't care if they lie or not, as long as they bring home the ideological bacon, in this case the "right" to abortion. Clinton proved that.

The Democrats are still talking and talking and talking...which is all they know how to do. They don't DO anything unless they're taking away some of our freedoms and spending our money to buy more votes which is usually done in the wee hours of the morning when nobody is watching.
I am so SICK of these RATS I could scream!!! Let Senator Thurmond speak!! He has more integrity in his little finger than all of the RATS combined!!
I hope Fox picks this up and causes an uproar. This shows what kind of people we're dealing with. We need a new majority leader if GOP wins... NO MORE "everybody just get along" Lott!!!!

There once was a time when a gentleman's agreement could be trusted to be honored. There is no honor in the Democratic party today, nor are there any gentlemen.

Haven't seen him yet. McCain and Graham have been speaking so far. Hope I didn't miss him. From the recent pics of Thurmond I've seen, he looks remarkable for a man of his age.

Rush said something about the Senate to do something soon about this. I missed exactly what he said. I am listening to C-Span 2 now and they are voting on something. Maybe after this? Sorry to be so confusing.

After they vote to table the Graham Amendment to the Iraq resolution (expanding W's powers), Thurmond and the Pubs will supposedly take to the floor to protest Leahy's actions.

" There is no honor in the Democratic party today, nor are there any gentlemen."
The Democrats have become so despicable, so hateful, so unlawful and quite frankly,so downright evil, that it boggles the mind, how anyone with a shred of decency ,could remain in the party. The longer people like Zell Miller remain a Democrat, the harder it will be, to remove the taint.

Harry Reid now tries to run interference for Leahy by citing the usual suspects' 'concerns' about Judge Shedd. Trying to use minority groups' protests. Disgusting re-playing of the race card.
They don't get it...it's about Leahy LYING to Strom Thurmond. This will get ugly fast.

that is what is burning me up more than anything else. #1 the fact that Leahy TOLD him they would send it to the floor for a vote #2, the TRADITION that it is a courtesy accorded former chairmen of the committee and #3, the guy is 99 dang years old, at deaths door and RETIRING after unprecedented years of service, and they are SPITTING IN HIS FACE here!

I'm upset I only caught the tail end of Senator Thurmond's remarks. I did get to hear Senator Hatch. Reid was spouting irrelevancies. Leahy lied to Thurmond, that is clear.
To: rface
It doesn't look good for Dems when viewed live and unfiltered...but the press can rosey it up, as we know...
