Police in the Washington, D.C. area say it is too early to say whether a fatal shooting in a western suburb is related to a recent series of sniper attacks that has left six people dead and two others critically wounded. Authorities say a man was shot and killed late Wednesday as he filled his car at a gasoline station in Manassas, Virginia. Forensic evidence is still being analyzed. The sniper attacks have been linked by ballistics evidence.
Reports say certain elements of the Manassas shooting bear a resemblance to the sniper shootings, which began around the Washington area last Wednesday. Like the man killed in Manassas, all of the sniper victims were shot once, seemingly at random as they performed everyday tasks. Two of the people killed last week also were gunned down at gasoline stations.
Meanwhile, authorities say they are searching for a white van seen driving away from the location of the Manassas shooting. Police have been searching for a white vehicle in connection with the shootings last week. News reports early Wednesday said police discovered what may be the first known communication from the killer: a card used in fortunetelling, said to have written on it a message telling police, "I am God."
The card, known as a Tarot card, reportedly was found, along with a spent shell casing, near a school in a Maryland suburb where a sniper attack Monday left a 13-year-old boy critically wounded.
Police officials say they did not authorize information about the card to be released to the media and refused to comment further on the matter or other details of the investigation. Federal authorities are assisting in the investigation.
I agree that these are possibilities. I am just playing a hunch. I'm no expert, but I believe serial killers are usually a little more...creepy. For example, they will take a bodypart as a trophy, or kill only women because they think all women are whores, or leave cryptic messages. You have a great point about the planning behind 9/11 but they martyred themselves. This guy has no intention of doing that. Mark my words. If he makes a mistake and the net starts to tighten, he will simply slip away and start somewhere else. I wouldn't be surprised if the Saudi's or Hussein were paying him upwards of $ 100,000 per kill. I really think this guy is ex-Spetsnaz (sp?). When they first started to arrive in Brighton Beach, Russian mobsters would hire these guys to off people for $ 100.

The death card, which often shows a skeletal figure on a horse, represents endings, transitions, eliminations and the experiencing of inexorable forces.
I heard there was also a note to the police to keep the tarot card secret. Maybe the sniper was saying he was in process of ending the shooting spree. But the tarot card info leaked out and he decided to continue with shootings.
It's not a Lowe's across the street, it's a Home Depot. Lowe's is a half mile down the road, behind Checker's.

So CNN isn't off, it's just the numbering is different from the FOX map we're all used to. Because of the FOX map, I assumed the CNN map's #9 was supposed to be the Manassas shooting. Well, we all know what happens when we assume. :)
I essentially agree with you, but the point here is don't assume the shooter is younger than 55, as an example. While someone in his 50's isn't likely to do well in an infantry unit he can still have lethal skills. If the police are trying to profile the shooter, keep the age options open, was my point.

I posted what she told me. I know her elderly parents live in the area. I believe her when she tells me they were in the area last night.
Here where I live, the Lowes and HD are across the street from each other and the terms are used interchangably.
I appreciate your desire for accuracy, but I think it matters little on this post. They were horrified and their daughter was worried sick about them.
More importantly to the point of the post, there was an immediate and massive response on the part of law enforcement.

I have a lot of friends who are "tarot people," and can tell you that that's PR spin. The Death card does indeed mean death—death is the very archetype of transition. It usually means some transition short of death, of course, since most people experience mundane change more often than they experience death, but transition from "live" to "dead" is definitely an option. It's most likely that the shooter knows nothing of Tarot, but it's also possible that he knows quite a bit—the card's an appropriate choice either way.
The PLO has carried out some very skilled sniper attacks in Israel over the past few years. However, you're right, it doesn't come naturally to the jihadist mind—Israel actually suspects at least one of the snipers was IRA, "on loan" to the PLO as both a terrorist and a teacher. (The IRA and Muslim terrorist groups often train together, strange as that may seem.) Something similar could be happening here.
