"We have the weapon. It is off the streets." - BAN Assault Sedans

Excerpt from "Ballistics match rifle to sniper attacks" on CNN.com:

ROCKVILLE, Maryland (CNN) -- Ballistic tests on the rifle found in the car of the men authorities believe were involved in the Washington-area sniper attacks matched the weapon to the bullets in all but three of the 14 shootings, law enforcement officials said Thursday evening.

The rifle "has been forensically determined to be the murder weapon," Michael Bouchard of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms told a news conference in Montgomery County, Maryland.

"We have the weapon. It is off the street," said Montgomery County Police Chief Charles Moose, whose department spearheaded the sniper task force.

What really struck me was this comment by Chief Moose: "We have the weapon. It is off the street." (see link for quote on CNN.com).

It almost sounds like it was more important to him to get the rifle than the perps! As if the rifle drove the Chevrolet Caprice over serveral counties, cut a hole in trunk, bought the ammo, loaded itself, aimed itself arbitrarily at unsuspecting victims, and then the trigger was pulled on its own power.

Muhammed and Malvo just happened to be in the car, spectators perhaps. Thank God the rifle is off the street - why we can release the persecuted moslems now that they are out of the clutches of that evil gun.

BAN Assault Sedans

On a side note, I think it is high time that we ban the sell of Chevrolet Caprice's and similar "assault sedans." We can have a buyback to get those on the street today, say $200 each, and give owners 2 years to turn them in. They should also have to pay a $200 Federal Transfer tax, get background checks, and the tires will need to be printed so we have a registry of the tire tracks.

On Monday, I will go and talk with San Antonio Mayor Ed Garza (if he can tear himself away from begging our crooked city councilmen to resign) to see about suing GM.

Chevrolet intentionally designed the Caprice with an oversized assault-style trunk and then dumped them on unsuspecting buyers with particularly poor taste. San Antonio never had a chance...it is just a matter of time before every familiy is South Texas will have lost a loved one to these evil "assault sedans."

The use of this sniper situation to call for banning guns is, IMHO, no more logical than calling for a ban on Muslims.

Cheif Moose endured, and completed, an unimaginally difficult job.

From my observations, he did so with the utmost professionalism.

This in spite of, & in the face of dipsticks in the media, & elsewhere, second guessing him, hairsplitting his words, and imposing there own brand of "intelligence" on the situation.

He has my thanks, respect, and prayers.

I heard the same pap being repeated by liberal reporters over the past 2 days, "The weapon is off the streeets".

The question is - did the authorities read the weapon's Miranda Rights and which high profile mealy mouthed lawyer is going to defend this "weapon" in court?

This personification by the liberals is ridiculous. Its a cheap and intellectually lazy attempt to blame guns instead of criminals. I am just gald the murderers; and in islamofascist and his young friend are off the "streets".

I think he did a pretty good job too.

Still, if the quote is accurate (I did not hear it myself, so I am relying on the ever unreliable CNN), it demonstrates that he shares this absurd notion that guns, in and of themselves, are a threat.

To be honest, it doesn't surprise me in the least. He could be a really competent investigator and law enforcement leader, and still subscribe to this childish belief that inanimate objects are evil and cause violence. He could have also been misquoted by some liberal journalist.

I just wanted to point out this is how some people feel instead of think, and that it is silly.

Yeah, like SUVs those Assault Sedans have a mind all their own. We had a headline here the other day, an SUV drove into a storefront.

Imagine that ?? What an evil machine.

We don't say a shovel dug a hole. We say someone used a shovel to dig a hole, or used a hammer to drive a nail. But, we let the liberals get away with saying an SUV caused an accident or that an "Assault Rifle" killed somebody.

My goodness, people are stupid -- AND then we let 'em go vote.

Maybe we should reinstitute literacy tests. An ajudged mental incompetent can't buy a gun, but by God, they can go vote.

In the long run, which do you suppose is more dangerous ??

I guess we should just be thankful Muhammed didn't buy an old, wore out Suburban.

I really despised the Moose for saying this.
The implication is that this rifle, in anyone's hands, would have been used to kill random people.

I heard liberals, like Alan Colmes, use that phrase the night before, but Moose should have used another phrase. Also, since the 2 were not formally charged, but being held on different counts, I can understand Moose's reluctance to talk abotu the suspects.

Going tonight?

It is accurate. I was watching that press briefing on FNC.

I wonder if Moose the caboose will call for all trees to be cut down inside a 100 mile radius of D.C. (?) The trees did provide assult cover for the murdering 'sniper'.

What a total and complete load of bullcrap.

Moose refused to allow any composite picture of the suspects to be released. He continuously denied the possibility that the perpetrators were black. He put out a composite of a *VAN* (Un-freepin-believable) rather than that of a person. His staff refused to take five calls from the killers. The killers were questioned by police on October 8 who let them go because they were black. He failed to release the license plate information at the last... the info was LEAKED and the case was resolved within hours.

Agreed. Tough job and this man botched it big time. Sadly he now will probably become a politician like the dread pirate mayor Lee P. Brown.
