""I think it's sickening to see Anne Sumers exploiting the tragedy of the sniper shootings in a cheap attempt to get votes and avoid the real issues," said Evan Kozlow, a spokesman for the GOP contender."

The only thing that is sickening is that the ad is wrong, not the use of the sniper per se. I am tired of both sides grandstanding about "politicizing" issues like the war and the sniper that they claim to consider insulting: these ARE political issues, and to claim they are not is stupid. Not to mention that rather than easily discredit the absurd connotation the gun control morons have between their stance and safety from sniper Islamists, the Republicans are focusing on bitching and moaning...this might delude the uninformed into thinking there is some substance to the liberal's position, and that would be a tragedy.

Go to the ad on The Smoking Gun (Warning: Huge Download)

It's even worse than you think. It starts out with a voiceover saying "First he was convicted of domestic abuse...", while displaying the topmost image:

Then it cuts immediately to a picture of Scott Garrett, with the words "But Scott Garrett supports allowing domestic abusers to purchase firearms..." leaving one with the nagging impression that it was Scott Garrett who was convicted of domestic abuse. The ad never really clears up the matter, either.

Truly a despicable ad, on many levels.

Garrett and Sumers are contesting an open House seat that retiring GOP Rep. Marge Roukema has long held. Republican strategists say that Garrett is on his way to victory. Democrats concede Sumers will need a late surge to win.

For those of you outside the state – Marge Roukema is a crappy RINO who conservatives were told to hold their noses and vote for, again and again. Most did, for decades, for the good of "the party."

Anne Sumers was a political supporter and GOP fundraiser for Roukema.

After conservative Scott Garrett won the primary for the retiring Roukema’s seat, Anne Sumers switched parties and became the Democratic candidate, because she couldn’t face the horror of a conservative representing the GOP.

And that bitch Roukema has yet to announce her support of either candidate. I think that “late surge” they are hoping for will come this weekend, when Roukema announces her support for Sumers, and the local (and national) networks treated it like the biggest news since Lindy made it to France.

You cannot compromise with these people.

You cannot negotiate with them.

You cannot trust them.

You can only defeat them.

They are the face of evil.

Democrap Anne Sumers has an e-mail address (Anne@Sumers2002.com) that Freepers should send her a clear message. I sent her a message and told her that she was a fully indoctrinated political whore of the Democrap Party.

On her web site, she boasts of being a mother. I said that I hoped that God would look after her children if this is an example of the principles and values that she instilled into them!

"I think it's sickening to see Anne Sumers exploiting the tragedy of the sniper shootings in a cheap attempt to get votes and avoid the real issues," said Evan Kozlow, a spokesman for the GOP contender.

Jeff Garcia, a spokesman for Sumers, defended the ad as an attempt to use a recent event to bring the important issue of gun control to the voters.

By sending what kind of message? That Scott Garrett is responsible for the shootings?

News flash, you dumba$$ DemoRat! NONE of the gun laws on the book, state or federal, could have stopped Muhammad.

You wanna know why? Because he is a C-R-I-M-I-N-A-L. And criminals do not obey laws!

Look that up in your Funk and Wagnalls.

Anne Sumers is personally responsible for the Beltway Snipers. It's been attitudes like hers that have led to the disarming of Marylanders.

The snipers thought they could get away with it in Montgomery County, and they did!

Anne Sumers should be prosecuted and sent to prison right along with Muhammad and Malvo.

"Anne Ricks is against private school choice.
Most children trapped in failing inner city schools, are African American.
African Americans overwhelmingly support School Vouchers.

Anne Ricks, She just doesn't like blacks.

Garrett for Congress."

Bravo, hobbes! I love your ad idea. Let's run with it.

Terry McAuliffe, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said recently the party would have "thousands of lawyers on the ground, so that no one is intimidated into forgoing their rights."

Oooooooooh, defend us, Terry. We're so concerned about being disenfranchised..../SARCASM

As a gun owner, I know that physicians kill more people each year by negligence than guns do. Like 4 times more people.

Put on an equal basis of accidental deaths doctors are going to have to improve a lot to be only 4 times as lethal as guns.

The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000
Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year are 120,000
Accidental deaths per physician are 0.171 (U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services)
The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000
The number of accidental gun deaths per year (all age groups) is 1,500
The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .0000188.
Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.

IMO the only thing more dangerous to human life than a doctor (based on the above) is a Democrat politician. Does NJ really want to elect a Democrat doctor?

.30Carbine:
I humbly submit that the GOP and their candidate, Garrett, ought to have come out with both barrels loaded against this ad. Better yet, they ought to have been the first to note that the sniper situation revealed how blatantly futile 'gun control' laws are in stopping criminal behavior, and how outright dangerous it is to disarm peaceful citizens.

hobbes1:
Say what you will about the Ad, but if Republicans had the BALLS to run ads like that, we wouldn't be a minority party in ANY section of the country.

Lizard_King:
the Republicans are focusing on bitching and moaning...this might delude the uninformed into thinking there is some substance to the liberal's position,

My personal bias towards my wife's opinion aside;

.30Carbine is right and hobbes1 hits the nail on the head when he suggests that the Repub.'s aren't the majority party for the simple reason that they have no cajones.
L_K is right too except I would go further and say there is no 'might' about it. The uninformed and the undecided definitely think there is substance to the smears and lies told by the Rat's when the response is indignant protest.

Most ordinary folk see that as weakness and/or guilt. The Rat's win hearts and minds and VOTES in thirty second emotion packed soundbites. The way to counter slander and innuendo is to laugh it off and spell out the truth...not in detailed boring accountant style tomes of ideology but in short hard hitting emotion packed statements of fact.

hobbes1's idea in post #59 is superb.

The issue for Republicans shouldn't be whether their tactics are 'nice' compared to the Dim's. It should be predicated on truthfulness. There's a lot of mean and nasty truthfulness to be told on the Dim's. It might be wise to let the opposition take the first shot. Even the second and third. Let it be clear who set the tone as nasty. But when the gloves come off in politics there's no steenking Marcus of Queensbury rules.

The Democrats ideas are stupid. Show in vivid detail how stupid they are.

Gun control kills.

Welfare keeps the black man down.

Abortion is murder.

Open borders are terrorist highways.

SAY IT! SHOW IT! MEAN IT!
