[history]
THE plunge in AOL Time Warner stock has hurt the Democratic Party and its chances of controlling both houses of Congress after tomorrow's elections. Many Democratic candidates across the country were pinched for campaign funds which they might have gotten in years past from Jane Fonda. The ex-wife of Ted Turner is reported to have given $11 million to leftist groups in the year 2000. But since most of her fortune is in AOL Time Warner shares, and the share price has plummeted from a high of $100 since then to less than $15 on Friday, Fonda has not been as generous. And it's not just liberal politicians feeling the pinch. Groups like Planned Parenthood and the Sierra Club, past recipients of Fonda cash, cut back on their advertising budgets this year. "The left-leaning organizations are spending less because they've raised less," said one media consultant. Planned Parenthood is only spending $2 million compared to $10 million in 2000.

Someone get me up to speed, is Fonda stil Born-Again, or has she become Abort-Again?
To: corsair
It's ok that she gives to liberal groups now. Don't forget, she's now a "Christian."

I would have stayed with AOL if I didn't feel like I was giving my money directly to the DNC.

It's ok that she gives to liberal groups now. Don't forget, she's now a "Christian." Socialism has long been espoused by Christian groups. In fact, the "faith based initiative" proposed by President Bush is a socialist program.

Thank you. At least one person hasn't been blinded by Bush's rhetoric in regard to this socialist welfare program. Unfortunately, the conservative mentality nowadays is, "If it helps 'our team', it must be good, liberty be damned."

What people of character would ACCEPT money from a woman who has never repudiated being photographed gleefully manning antiaircraft guns against American pilots and American planes during the Vietnam War?

Ship her boney communist ass back to Hanio.

In Fonda's defense, it takes all of us awhile to get up to speed once we have been saved. We don't instantly change every attitude we've ever held over night.

Um, this WAS about 30 years ago. People change. Do you have any idea what her stance on the current war is?

I don't recall filmmaker for the Nazis Leni Riefenstahl being accepted into Hollywood (or anywhere else) after the death of her fuhrer because "this was 30 years ago, maybe she's changed" or "she did this in her youth". Its one thing to forgive, its another thing to welcome (in the case of certain organizations, honor) an UNREPETANT traitor with open arms and to accept her dirty money to influence an election in the country whose soldiers she spat on and never apologized to.

People do change. But, the men whose death she caused are still...dead.

Also, if you want to see Miss Fonda's position on the state of the current wrangle with Iraq, look at her signature to the Not in Our Name website that includes such anti-violence crusaders such as Mumia Abu-Jamal on Pennsylvania's death row for shooting a wounded patrolman between the eyes and rejoicing in it.

Can't be certain, but I bet it's something along the lines of severe embarrassment over looking bad. Not embarrassment about her politics during that time, nor about being a huge traitor, but embarrassment and disappointment that she didn't get a damned Nobel prize or something.
On the other hand, does anything embarrass a hardcore leftist? Perhaps a better word would be 'bitterness' that she didn't get some award for it.

She is 'Gore-Again'. Hope that helps.

Don't have the link but she repudiated her "conversion" earlier this year.
