The cable news channel MSNBC is close to signing Gov. Jesse Ventura as a talk-show host after he leaves office early next year, the Wall Street Journal has reported.

Citing people familiar with the situation, the Journal said NBC News President Neal Shapiro and MSNBC President Erik Sorenson have been wooing Ventura and his agents at the William Morris Agency. Already a regular on MSNBC's political program "Hardball," Ventura would probably be scheduled for prime time, maybe the 7 p.m. slot occupied by Phil Donahue, the Journal reported. Donahue's comeback effort hasn't gotten big ratings.

"...Most will realize he's [Ventura] just an air-head X pro wrestler and tune out."

The sheeple out there were dumb and bored enough -- especially young sheeple -- to elect the schlocky ex-pink-boa clad cartoon-character-ish Ventura as Governor.

He and his ilk unfortunately ARE the future of TV and politics.

I've noticed this week (while channel surfing) that he is back to a studio audience and wandering with a microphone, like on his original talk-show format. Has it improved his ratings any?

"Disagree with him if you must, but there's no need to disrespect a former Navy SEAL. You can't be an airhead and a Navy SEAL."

Disrespecting a "former Navy Seal"?? We're "disrespecting" a man who has since become a moron.

The guy had more dignity then our Trent Lott. When Dems abused the camera during the Wellstone memorial, he walked out! Mr. parking Lott, did not want to upset the Dems!

Did Jesse ever actually DO anything as governor?
(Besides appoint a temporary Senator, I mean.)
All I ever saw him do was make guest appearances on Letterman, Leno, Castro, etc. etc.

From the reports I've read, Lott also walked out.

Donahue is awful, that's for sure, but I really can't stand to listen to Jesse Ventura. His voice drives me nuts.

Of course, no matter to me. I NEVER watch MSNBC.

I believe he followed through on his tax rebates - the "jesse checks." He also tried to take on the education unions but I don't think he had much success.

For about a week, IMHO.

I tire of Jesse's temper tantrum personality.

The accent of MN ??? HUH ???

Sorry, as a native Minnesotan, Jesse doesn't talk like anyone else I know.

It's not just the accent... it's that his nose has been broken so many times that air cannot pass through it. It is the standard voice of the ex-pug. Ironic that a 'nasal' voice means that the nasal passages are NOT involved.

I can see it now:

"Off the Top Rope, hosted by Jesse 'The Body' Ventura, with special guests "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan and 'the Junkyard Dog'."

--Oh yeah, this'll be a real winner. Way to go msnbc?!?!

The ignoramous simply cannot bring himself around to handing a show exclusively to a conservative, eh?

Discounting Dr. Keyes of course whom I admire greatly. A superb orator that to me never looked comfortable in the talk show genre. I gotta confess, I caught his show a couple times but didn't feel compelled to go back for more for whatever reasons. Was/is he missing a stage presence like, say, a Bill O'Reilly??? I dunno, but for some reason his show didn't "click" for me.

All I've ever heard out of Jesse Ventura are sound bites, so I've never gotten a handle on his politics. I like the man's style(kinda reminds me of Texans maybe?). I would guess he calls 'em like he sees 'em...

What it all boils down to maybe is that conservatives like some entertainment with the politics??? Ann Coulter would create a buzz would she not ; )

I agree - Jesse's voice/accent stands alone.

And, really, thank God. I can't stand his voice either. It just grates on me. I don't/won't listen to his radio show because of it (OK, that and the fact that he's a self-serving politician....)

I believe that native-born Minnesotan's tend to be "accent-less" (which is why the Networks love to recruit television journalists from the midwest - they're easier to understand).

"Jesse gov. backpedal Ventura Ted Kennedy in conservative drag."

That's funny. Okay, I admit it. That does rather describe him.

However, I stand by my remark that he isn't stupid. I just don't like to see any term like that associated with a great group of guys. Saying he's stupid is inferring that the SEALS were stupid to take him in the first place. I'm probably just too sensitive and overacting.

Have a great day. I always like your posts.

That is no way to talk about an ex Navy Seal who served his country with honor.

I have a lot of respect for veterans but they are not sacred cows that are forever off limits to be criticized.
