A nuclear storage bunker is an extremely hard target, and the guards have authority to use deadly force under any and all circumstances.

I'll second that.

Those tactical nukes are stored in something called a WS3 vault probably located in a hardened aircraft shelter; if they even happen to be there at Kleine Brogel. The Nukes are well protected.

From article: An al-Qa'eda terrorist has confessed that he planned to drive a giant explosive device into a United States air force bunker in Belgium believed to contain nuclear warheads.

And if the B-61s were in a munitions storage igloo, there is no way somebody is going to drive into it. The huge steel blast door is always locked, which has 2 high security locks. Hell he wouldn't make it past security.

Nice catch!

Did you all know that BELGIUM BLOCKED OUR INVESTIGATION OF THIS GUY FOR ALMOST A YEAR!? (Pardon the shouting.)

Belgians block FBI terrorist inquiries

By Ambrose Evans-Pritchard in Brussels

(Filed: 18/10/2001)

BELGIUM is refusing to co-operate fully in the fight against terrorism and has denied FBI investigators access to crucial witnesses.

More than a month after the attacks in America, the FBI is still trying to obtain telephone records and contact addresses needed to track down the al-Qa'eda network in Europe, says the New York Times.

American officials scoffed at Belgian claims yesterday that the dispute was because of the FBI's failure to follow "proper procedure" or that they had been given the material wanted.

An official said: "Belgium signed an agreement to co-operate with America but we're certainly not seeing that kind of partnership yet."

*****Christian de Valkeneer, the Belgian judge in charge of terrorist investigations, has been "working to rule" to prevent FBI agents gaining access to his files. The delays may have allowed crucial leads to dry up.

The Americans are itching to talk to Nizar Trabelsi, a Tunisian arrested by the Belgians two days after the September 11 attacks, but Judge de Valkeneer refused to hand over information about his network of contacts.

According to the confession of Djamel Beghal, an Algerian terrorist now in the hands of the French, Trabelsi was preparing to carry out a suicide bombing mission against the American embassy in Paris.

In contrast Holland, Germany and Spain are working in a "joined-up" operation with the FBI, in some cases allowing Americans to take part in suspect interviews.

*****On Friday a Belgian court ordered the release of two terrorist suspects with al-Qa'eda ties who were caught with car bomb chemicals.

Belgium is a leading centre of Islamic extremists, especially the Algerian GIA Armed Islamic Group, which is linked to al-Qa'eda.

Judge de Valkeneer is no stranger to controversy. He has been accused of dragging his feet in an inquiry into foreign ministry corruption.

Fortunately, a nuclear weapons bunker is built a little bit stronger than an embassy. .

Another dim bulb jihadist with a 40-watt bombing strategy.

Just got a Nat'l Geographic today and read the article about "You may have mised this.."

The two page article appears to document a WMD event involving smallpox that was hushed up, but then in the last sentence declares the entire affair was a NSC drill conducted a year ago.

I really felt it was a poor play by the Society.

nobody in a cell to know the true assignment until just prior to activation, and then perhaps only one person in the cell knows the true assignment and all the other cell members are given a different story

Agreed.

If you have a conventional explosion next to a nuclear device you get what? Maybe some minor radiation leakage?

This plan just dosen;t make any sense unless their goal was to locate and steal the weapons intact.

That would be better done with a fifth column inside the facility. Really if Osama wants nukes there are almost certainly some available on the black market with no soldiers shooting at you during the transaction.

If this AQ person had half a brain he would have said "look, this is obviously not the plan because it is so stupid. I don't need to know the plan but please don't lie to me." ;-)

When I worked in the S-2 shop in a Pershing Battalion in Germany we were ready for terrorists trying to drive trucks through barricades. It is unlikely they could have done more than kill a few guards at the outer gates. Sad, but I doubt they would ever gotten anywhere near damaging a nuclear weapon.

Those bombs should probably be removed from US bases in Europe. Europe is awash in terrorists and has nothing but Keystone Kops guarding the continent. With our B2 bombers, we surely don't need forward deployment of nukes anymore. Bring our Nukes home!

I doubt very much that there are any nukes forward deployed in Belgium. Who would they be used against? The Soviet Union is long gone and Tridents and B-2s from the states are more than adequate.

Since al-Qaeda has such a fetish for American landmarks, we should return the favor and nuke Mecca.

So you want to punish all of Islam, and turn many more of the 1.5 BILLION Muslims against us by nuking Mecca?

This is just a guess, but I'll bet your kind of advice isn't helpful in winning this war.

Having served in the Air Force for four years

I spent ten years in - all of it at Nellis AFB. Long ago, Area II used to be called "Lake Mead Base," and at one time, the local paper carried an article about how it was a nuclear weapons storage facility. When the 474th Tactical Fighter Wing was still active and at Nellis, Area II was listed (in the public domain) as the largest nuclear weapons storage facility in the west.

You're not kidding about the security around nuclear weapons. Would have been interesting to see anyone try to get to them at Nellis.

What did the confessor mean he "had no choice?" Bad journalism to report this, and not follow up with a question. Was his family threatened?

I'd say the largest nuclear weapon storage site is located at Kirtland AFB New Mexico.

You're right, we better continue to kiss Islam's feet. Otherwise, they might do something crazy like fly hijacked airliners into American buildings and bomb military barracks overseas.

Islam is a bogus "religion". It's nothing but a psycho death cult and its followers deserve no mercy.
