From 'Bombingham' to Bush: How Condoleezza Rice fulfilled King's dream
The Washington Times ^ | November 19, 2002 | Arnold Beichman

Who would have predicted in 1954, the year of the Supreme Court's landmark Brown vs. Board of Education decision, that in less than half a century two distinguished black Americans (and one of them a woman at that) would be sharing foreign policy decision-making with the president of the United States? Perhaps Martin Luther King might have included such a prophecy in his "I Have a Dream" oration.

What dots, exactly, did you want Rice to connect?

The CIA had info, the FBI had info - at least two dots to connect.

BTW - prior to 9/11 the government was on a heighted alert because of significant threats, nobody bothered to ensure the airlines were increasing security.

I don't know why you pinged me....I am sure I did have something to say about your post in there...but I am not searching 400 posts for it. I did however, immediately locate your comment that probably set us girls off on the first page:

I can't. Call it my male ego, but women in politics don't belong. I know this is not going to sit right with my fellow female Freepers, but, watching them in debate, "Gotta talk with their hands", seeing how they are motivated, watching how they vote...all of it. Tells me, they are a waste of space in DC. Granted, there is a lotta wasted sperm on the male side too. But, feelings have no place in government. And there is a lot of legislation being passed on feelings.

Go ahead and let the stones fly. I say the Emporer has no cloths!!

SR

Having read your post again, I feel like letting you have it again....but I won't.

Keeping Rice in her post is equivalent to keeping Admiral Kimmel and General Short in their posts after Pearl Harbor.

Sorry, but that comparison is just plain asinine. There is simply no way anyone could have anticipated the 9/11 attack. The Pearl Harbor attack was carried out by a conspicuously built navy representing a nation that was carrying out a war of aggression in the Pacific. As our entire Pacific Fleet was operating out of Pearl Harbor, an argument can be made that more vigilance was required in the neighborhood. And there was even precedent for Pearl Harbor. The UK carried out the same attack against the Italian navy two years earlier. Meanwhile, nobody was complaining about airport security measures in this country, and placing anit-aircraft batteries at every national landmark (the only thing that would have thwarted the airborn terrorists) would have been comletely impractical. Again, go ahead and play armchair quarterback if it helps your ego somehow. But I dare you to present a single person who looked at cryptic reports that arabs were taking flight lessons and shouted "oh my God, they're going to crash into the World Trade Center!" Give the terrorists their due. The came up with a unique and diabolical plan, and carried it off. Now, once again, what, specifically, is Ms. Rice doing today that you would do differently?

There was the female FBI agent in Arizona who alerted the FBI headquaters.

There was the pilot instructor (retired Air Force pilot) who alerted the FBI in Minnesota, which in turn alerted FBI headquaters.

There was the CIA who was tailing one of the 9/11 hijackers until he entered the U.S.

Oh yes - there was a commerical jet that was hijacked a few years ago and landed at Marseille enroute to flying into the Eiffel Tower (French SWAT team overwhelmed the hijackers).

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

Again, what would you have done differently? You do realize that President Bush (who has all the facts - you have a bit of malarky presented by Hillary Clinton & her colleagues) would not be putting the security of our nation at risk by remaining loyal to someone who was incompetant, don't you?
Nothing like this had ever come close to happening in this country, and there was no reason to think that it would. Even after 9/11, a huge percentage of the population is complaining about heightened security measures. Are you foolish enough to think that people would have blandly accepted them last summer? Get real! Nobody came close to anticipating the 9/11 attack.

If you had this information before 9/11, why didn't you notify the administration?

If you didn't have all this information, as much of it has been brought to light after 9/11, then you are not qualified to criticize.

Thousands of items of information are received by the security agencies every day. In hindsight, one can go through them and find pertinent clues. Before the fact, it is almost impossible.

I must conclude that the Rats are worried about Rice, and therefore are trying to discredit her. You are, as usual, doing their bidding.

You mean the agencies that Frank Church and his fellow Democrats hamstrung so that they could not co-operate with each other?

BTW - prior to 9/11 the government was on a heighted alert because of significant threats, nobody bothered to ensure the airlines were increasing security.

What extra security did you want the airlines to put in place so that that particular incident could have been prevented?

Profile Middle Easterners? You and your fellow Democrats would have yelled "Racism"!

Fire poor-quality airport security personnel? You and your fellow Democrats would have yelled "Racism" and "Union Busting"!

Rice couldn't "connect the dots" prior to 9/11.

She's useless!

I'm sure you would have done better, Taco-Spud.

You mean like CIA Director Tenent? You might wish to research what Sen. Shelby (R-AL) has to say about Tenent.

Nothing like this had ever come close to happening in this country, and there was no reason to think that it would.

I guess the 1993 bombing of the WTC never occurred.

Even after 9/11, a huge percentage of the population is complaining about heightened security measures. Are you foolish enough to think that people would have blandly accepted them last summer?

Do you know that boxcutters and pepper spray were banned from air travel prior to 9/11?

Get real! Nobody came close to anticipating the 9/11 attack.

Nobody came close! You really believe that?

BTW - How do you know that?

How about ensuring that security procedures were being followed like banning boxcutters and pepper spray?

Profile Middle Easterners? You and your fellow Democrats would have yelled "Racism"!

Don't include me in that statement.

Fire poor-quality airport security personnel? You and your fellow Democrats would have yelled "Racism" and "Union Busting"!

The security personnel were a disaster waiting to happen, with a good possibility that they might have been working with the 9/11 terrorists.

Do I make my position clear enough?

Yeah like our side never makes mistakes (i.e., Midway, Pearl Harbor).

BTW - I have a pretty good memory - so if someone tells me one thing one day, and another person tells me something related days later, I remember, and I "connect the dots".
