After hearing about the anti-war protests that took place at the University of Minnesota and the protest that was scheduled for today in front of the Federal Buliding in Minneapolis, I decided to make my way down there and lead a counter-protest.
On the suggestion of Terriergal, I made a sign that read:
I stood out at the corner of 4th St. and 3d Avenue, outside the Public Service Commission building, from the time they started to chant until all that was left were the true believers. Among the chants that these geniuses came up with were: "Hell no, we won't go, we won't go for [something-something]" and "Hey, hey. Ho, ho. Bush and his war have got to go."
Of course, these folks being "peaceful" protestors, they deicded that they needed for people to bring buckets of rocks, pieces of wood and other items for some reason or another. Naturally, I would end up having a guy with a bucket of rocks pass by me and question me about my sign, hiding behind the fact that even though they are against the President, they don't support Saddam, which defies logic in every way possible.
The best part of the whole experience was the fact that people would come up to me and actually give me words of support with the best being from a fella who came up to me, seeing the sign, and said "That's about it!" The silence was broken once from a man who started replying "What do we want? Start bombing now!"
Not surprisingly, many people also had great disdain for my sign, including a person who decided to make an snide remark about my outward appearance. The most interesting encounter I had with the anti-war folks was this person who basically lectured me about the 'atrocities' the sanctions were doing to the Iraqi people; when she left, she made a remark like "good to know that so many more people came out on our side."
Overall, I have to say for a first-timer, it was a success (of course, when you get a thumbs-up from a cop, not much can go wrong!), considering that the majority of people who stopped to chat with me were supportive of my actions, including a couple of "thank yous" and some "Good Lucks."
Sorry, no pictures...it was hard enough keeping the sign up (the sign, by the way is made of a side of a Priority Mail sender that I got for free from Fox News after winning a FNC umbrella, which wasn't holding up too good in the light breeze (assited by downtown channeling), but it was free and it held up) and my camera is broken.
I have my own little report to add:
About a week ago I happened upon the weekly Friday Noon anti-Bush / anti-war protest at our main intersection.
Two ding-dongs were crossing the street so I asked in my best loud voice
"DO YOU LOVE SADAAM ?? IS SADAAM YOUR HERO ??"
[ LOL they were too stupid or too stunned to respond ] and then across the intersection "SADAAM LOVERS" HA HA They were so lame they said nothing as I proudly drove off in my Dodge 4x4 with American Flag stickers. Idiots. But at least I got my two cents in. I still would love to drive by with a big flag and verbally abuse these lefties again -- maybe this Friday.
Anyhow, GOOD WORK AND KEEP ON FREEPIN' ! !
That is the mark of a successful FReep. Often we only have hours of notice that the left is going to protest. FReepers need to be the modern day "Minute Men" and ready to FReep on short notice.
Sometimes it is the little things like posting to FR the "intel" about the opposition's protest plans as soon as they are revealed (the left usually is good about notifying their commrades in the media about their plans) that make it possible for other FReepers to go out and counter-FReep the opposition. Others might spot those intel reports and FReepmail/e-mail/call FReepers in that area to further notify other local FReepers to come out and counter-FReep.
But in the end, it is FReeper foot soldiers like 'bigaln2' that actually take the time and effort to get out on the street and take a stand, that makes FReepers a force to be reckoned with. Whether it get's reported by the lamestream media or not, it does get noticed. If by no one else than the leftists, who will think twice before spouting off non-sense next time, knowing that it will be challenged. Usually FReepers get thumbs up and honks of approval from the public too, as our humor and patriotism can be infectious.
