You know...

I just can't find it in myself to feel sorry for Trent Lott.

It must be a character defect of mine.

There should have been a smiley after the first sentence there to indicate "duh!" :-)

As long as he's coming to the door, tell him you'll accept his apology if he kicks in a few bucks to prove his sincerity. Since he's groveling, you might as well hit him up for some cash :-).

Same thing Al Sharpton said he should do to show his sincerity. (Blackmail)

Exactly, and Lott will have to pay for the rest of his career I suppose. I read that the Black Caucus is afraid of Byrd because he heads the Appropriations committee, so if they criticize his behaviour they can kiss their spending bills goodbye. So Lott gets all the heat. It's only ever about power and how to get more.

The NOW hag said "Yes, he is a racist, sexist, and homophobe, and because of that he should step down from office. He is not a man who deserves to lead the country"!!!

I'm afraid Trent will spend the rest of his leasdership trying to prove to the HAGS and Sharptons of the country that he isn't all of these mean nasty things.

Can anybody actually picture Trent standing up against affimative action and illegal immigration now that he's been Borked?

You're absolutely right. This whole dust up is totally ludicrous. I'm no Trent Lott fan, but this is one molehill that should have been squashed immediately.

After this last election, Clinton lead the democrat party with a speech. He called for a demolition team? Looks like they're still following Clinton.

I was amazed that this guy seems to think that raising the minimum wage actually helps anybody.

Reminds me of December 1994. Like in 96, I wonder if a Clinton will be running in 2004?

Well, my main complaint with Lott is the fact that he basically did the political equivalent of "Hold muh beer AND WATCH THIS!"

I'm no Trent fan, but IMO Trent was simply making a self-effacing joke about his and his fellow Mississippians segregationist past. His remarks were taken out of context.

The guy was trying to be nice to an old guy at a birthday party, and now the race baters, abortion NOW hags, homosexuals are all out to hang him on a Liberal cross made of tofu. Where's the environmentalists accusing him of murder for placing flowers for the tables? Clinton forget to call them?
I think Lott should walk away now, and watch the left self destruct. They've got a great start already. If they keep it up, Lott will be one of the most loved senators in Washington! LOL

I think Lott should walk away now...

Yesterday I was defending Lott and saying that he should stay on in leadership because the charges against him were false.

However, today I see him apologizing and I get the feeling that from this point forward he will bend over backwards to try and prove his critics wrong -- he should resign.

The Dem's and Trent both now have one thing in common. They both want Trent to stay on in leadership -- this ain't good!

I've been wondering how much Trent Lott had to drink at Strom's party to allow his foot to become so completely lodged in his mouth.

Every time the guy gets in front of a camera, he hurts the party

Dollars to donuts MSNBC would cancel him, too.

Public intemperance to the point of engaging in stupid remarks, is generally considered to be unacceptable behavior for people in positions of public trust--at least, amond decent God-fearing folk, so that kinda rules out the DemocRATS.

OK, conspiracy theory #439:

Trent Lott did this whole thing on purpose, knowing that, as much as he's hated by the true conservatives in the party (and by vertebrates everywhere), we still wouldn't want him to resign the leadership under pressure from the likes of Al Sharpton, the Revrun JACKsuhn, and the rest of the poverty pimps.
So, he has effectively protected his post as Majority Leader.

Naw, that's just a little too far-fetched... or is it?

I agree with that. I thought his speech at the press conference was unimpressively delivered. When he tried extemporaneous departure, he was obviously fumbling for the right words....he should've been nervous....but you could see these were not thought patterns that came easily to his mind and tongue.

He needs to practice. I wouldn't have Rove do it. He needs heart in this next speech....he needs whazername -- Noonan.
