GOP Senator: It's Time For Lott To Go
CBS News ^ | December 18, 2002 | Bob Fuss

By the days end, at least 10 Senate Republicans contacted by CBS News have endorsed Lott's leadership, a small boost for the embattled Senator, but far short of the 26 he will need from the Senate GOP Caucus to keep his job reports CBS News Washington Correspondant Bob Fuss.

Those standing with Lott include:

Mike Dewine-Ohio

Orrin Hatch-Utah

Arlen Specter-Pennslyvania

Lott still believes a majority of the 51 Senate Republicans support him.

'I'm telling you this morning, I am hanging in there,' he told the Biloxi Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday.

Lott was an obsequious, self-serving rat to begin with. This tempest in a teapot only serves to demonstrate how low Lott would actually stoop to serve his own interests! Is this guy even a vertebrate? Had he shown some gonads and refused to apologize, I'd say by all means retain him as Majority Leader. But he's apologising for a faux pas he didn't commit. There's a word for him, but it can't be printed. Good riddance!

I have a bit different take on this. Having held Lott in contempt for so many years now, I consider this an opportunity to purge the Republican Leadership on the Hill of an incompetent, vain, self-oriented, miniscule creep.

Let the chips fall where they may on the head count. Push comes to shove, toss Dachele or Edwards off a cliff to give us an edge. But, dump Lott for all the good reasons he should never been elected to ML in the first place. (As an aside, I blame Dole for that mistake in '96). The GOP will survive this mess...and be better off for the exorcism.

Cheers. And, Happy Holidays to all from the birthplace of Naval Aviation. DKP

He's not my boy. He did a lousy job on BET and he's a bad MJL.

That said, he should not be removed because the race baiting Black Caucus, NAACP, the likes of Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and Liberal left think they can make political points.

Vote him out for his failure to produce as MJL.

Don't hide behind skirts of the race baiters.

All the above has become an industry of hate. It's production lines are producing hate, welfare, joblessness, dispair, failing schools, drugs and crime amongst it's young. After awhile they will be producing terrorist. "sooner then you think". Give the young ones a break and lead them in the right direction. Stop playing this silly game. The Black Caucus should become part of the U.S Senate not some individual entity on it's own agenda. They should become AMERICANS instead of Afican Americans.

Someone please tell them Slavery is over, has been over and won't come back.

This race baiting crap is making most AMERICANS lose interest in anything they have to say. In time this will not serve anyone well.

Wake up America

Since when did Lott become a 'leader'?

True. Most leaders have a recognizable spinal chord. This guy obviously does not. He caved in the impeachment trial because he had Lewisky before Slick did. She got passed around more than a olympic baton, according to some sources. This may be THE main reason he 'plays ball' with the left.

He also caved on committee heads when they gained a senate advantage the previous time.

Anybody getting the feeling he made this remark on purpose, knowing that possible repercussions might occur, rendering him another non-factor in crucial decision-making during tough times, the RINO he truly is.

We all know there's more than one of those in the senate!

"Don't hide behind skirts of the race baiters" Its not about political correctness, its about having a sharp leader who is held accountable to his party.

I have a feeling the Republicans will end up letting Lott stay as Majority leader, and also end up slitting their own throats as usual.

You might very well be right. I think they'll do the prudent thing, but wouldn't be a bit surprised if they chicken out of this. Then we can look forward to a barrage of ads come election season showing MAJORITY LEADER Trent Lott with every single republican candidate and those up for re-election in those swing states and minority districts. Hell, they're even trying to expand this beyond blacks now, they're lumping Lott's "bigotry" to include all other minorities and women as well. If he survives, wonder if Lott will be allowed to speak at convention 2004?
