Does God Pick Lottery Winners?
AP | Dec.26,2002 | self

AP- "I just want to thank God for letting me pick the right numbers — or letting the machine pick the right numbers," said Powerball winner Andrew "Jack" Whittaker Jr., dressed in black with a big black cowboy hat.

Does God pick winners in a Powerball Lottery? Does God even want you to play the lottery?

I have real problems with this gentleman. I don't think he has thought through this question. The Bible has nothing to say SPECIFICALLY about gambling. However, Genesis makes it clear we have a bond with God to work by the sweat of our brow. This is repeated elsewhere, I am, by no means, a Bible expert. As a matter of fact, I have only been a Christian for eight years. However, I do know gambling is at odds (oun intended) with the Christian walk. If one becomes hooked on gambling this can lead to sinful behavior on numerous levels. Ignoring your family's needs clearly puts you at odds with God.

I attend a large, and very Conservative, Baptist Church here in Texas. I once asked the assistant Pastor who discipled me what the Church would do if someone offered lottery winning as a tithe to the Church. He said they would refuse to accept the money. My guess is, most Churches will accept these gifts. This man will give a hefty sum of money to his Church in West Virginia. It will be interesting to see whether this Church accepts the money. Your thoughts.

Just like God helps every actor who wins the Academy Award and every rapper who wins an Emmy. It's just an acknowledgement that there is an entity higher than ourselves. Yeesh.

No problem here at all . . . . except that God didn't dump that money in my lap.

Read the book of Esther. She won a beauty contest to become Queen of Persia. What Esther accomplished was stopping an ancient Adolf Hitler (Haaman) from exterminating the Jews (Haaman's Final Solution) and prevented a Jewish Holocost. (excuse the spelling)
It is implied that God picked a beauty contest winner, so why not a lotto winner?

That lottery winner isn't thinking clearly, or he'd reconsider his words. We can forgive him, it's not every day the man wins 111 million dollars.

Q: Does God Pick Lottery Winners?

A: No. All lottery winners are picked by Schroedinger's cat. Until the cat picks a winner, all players are both winners and loosers, simultaneously.

Does God want us to gamble?

Why else would He have created Bingo?

Actually, I would like to weigh in on this seriously. Whenever I buy a lottery ticket, I only buy one and I always tell the merchant that if God is going to smile on me, it will only take one ticket.

Yeah, the lottery winner saying such things ought to resign the Senate Majority Leader Position, if he's holding it! Otherwise, I dunno what to do!

Football players are always thanking God for them making touchdowns. You should have a problem with them too.

Schroedinger's cat.

To heck with the cat. I don't believe that Heisenberg existed. Except that sometimes, I do.

I've been known to mutter THANK GOD when the Dallas Cowboys ever win a game, but I suspect it has less to do with divine intervention than the fact that the other team really sucks pondwater.
