Wearing those old Cinncinati Bengals uniforms.

I actually liked those old solid orange helmets with the word BENGALS in arched too-thin letters. Unfortunately on TV/NFL Films, except in closeups, they were just that...solid orange.

When Cincy went to those tiger-striped helmets, someone wrote to Football Digest suggesting that a 2-year-old had gone over them with a magic marker. :-)

The Niners pretty much lucked into Jeff Garcia. Walsh had known quite a bit about him from when he was coaching Stanford and Garcia was an All-American at San Jose State. The NFL passed over Garcia, he went to Canada and shined a la Warren Moon, and when Young took too many dings to his melon, Walsh made the call.

None of us expected Garcia to be this good. We all thought the Niners were in for a long dry spell. It only lasted one year.

Druckenmiller was one of those guys who blew gullible scouts away with arm strength, as if points were earned for how many times receivers' fingers were sprained or how many yards the ball is overthrown.

That is correct, it is the holders responsibility to make the hold a good one and correct a poor snap. The fact is the guy panicked.

It was the draft of 1981 that brought the 49ers three of their four secondary standouts -- Ronnie Lott, Eric Wright, and Carlton Williamson, who teamed up with safety Dwight Hicks and terrorized QBs throughout the league. Walsh was SF GM at the time as well as head coach.

It really is. The Giants haven't had good special teams(though I was happier with our returns this year) since Reyne Thompson was playing gunner.

I was at that Giants/Cowboys game you mentioned. That safety was the difference in a 12-10 loss by the Cowboys. I still can't believe that it held up. Even though the returner muffed the k o, he still didn't cross the goal line and head upfield. Should have been a touchback and Dallas ball at the 20. As for the the statement part, Dallas got two of those in the mail after SB 13. Benny Barnes was flagged for defensive pass interference against Lynn Swann. There were three officials near the play and called it correctly as offensive pass interfernece beacause Swann ran up Barnes' back to try and catch the ball. Fred "Eagle-Eye" Swearingen, who was 30 to 40 yards away from the play made the bogus call. He was working his final ever NFL game and he got the three aformentioned zebras to "see" it his way. The rest is history. The next week in the league offices, it was seen to be offensive interference so they shot off a letter of apology to the Dallas Cowboys and one to Barnes saying sorry for the error. Thing is, letters of apology don't look near as nice as a Super Bowl championship ring. The fans learn something new all the time about the finer parts of the rule book, don't we.

I am too. I try to listen to his broadcast at every opurtunity. Being a Cowboys fan in Memphis is tough competein with the Titans radio. I've listend to Brad ever since he was at KRLD and later at KVIL and now at KLUV. Very objective, which got him canned for a year for saying something JJ didn't like. He's had some good partners during that time, Verne Lundquist, Charlie Waters, Babe Lauffenberg, among others. He's a joy to listen to and is one of the best.

As I remember it and sinkspur may be able to correct my memory, is Brad Sham and Dale Hansen were doing the broadcasts and had been through the glory years of JJohnson, JJohnson and JJones had their famous meeting and BarryS (BS, from here on out) had taken control?.
There was some to do about whether JJones and BS were telling the truth in one particular incident.
Well Brad Sham and Dale got to talking about it on the pregame show and Brad made the ramark (excuse me paraphrasing from memory here) "That just because JJones says it, doesn't mean it is the truth".
Dale readily chimed in as he and BS had already had their semi-famous run-in on Hansens' nightly news show.
JJones fired the two of them after the last Super Bowl season and then hired Brad back a couple of years later after the lame-ass from Oklahoma (can't remeber his name right now) di the broadcast and totally sucked.

I forgot to add, that is if sinkspur is still talking to me, I think I might have insulted a couple of his buddies the last few days.
But also that Laughenberg came aboard in place of Hansen.
Babe does alright, but Dale is Dale.
Sham and Hansen were as good as any radio crew the Cowpokes have had working for them in my lifetime.
