The Steelers have lost eight of their past 10 meetings with Tennessee and were physically manhandled -- Bill Cowher's words -- by the Titans during the regular season.
And they are playing just six days after their emotional playoff victory against the Browns with a secondary that has injuries and other problems. No team had a better finish to the regular season than the Titans, who won 10 of their final 11 games after a 1-4 start. But the Steelers have never lost a playoff game to a division team (OK, the Titans qualify are a former division mate). After coming back from 11- and 17-point deficits in their past two games, they are not about to panic against the Titans. OK, the Steelers have yet to win a road playoff game under Cowher (0-2). But they seem to respond when nobody gives them a chance.

Again, your commentary can easily be flip-flopped and go the either way.... we can argue like this for days:
Look: I WAS right--we matched up very well against you guys, and it was clear in the first second half that you didn't have a chance. We ROLLED over you. Physically it was not a contest. Because of a complete mental lapse, you came back jumped out to an early lead in the second first half. It was a FLUKE. You did beat us mentally for a half, but football is a physical game--it ain't chess. We are the better team--no question. Just take a look at your piss-poor performance yesterday last Sunday (idiot retired special teams snapper... what a joke!). If I were a Whiner Little Giants fan, I'd be very very worried. As a GIANTS Niners fan, I look forward to next year.
> Just so that you know, the 49ers aren't the only team in the NFL with five Super Bowl rings.
Was it stated that they were? I thought not.

If you agreed with me at the time, as a stand-up guy, you would have thanked me for congratulating you on the win and acknowledged the possibility that you VERY WELL might have left it all on that field and had nothing left for the Bucs. But you DID NOT. What I said was prescient (look it up) and on target. You did not acknowledge the congrats OR the prediction. So do not knock my on-the-money call of your team's pathetic attempt at football against the Bucs (and, I don't think that there is anyone in the US, Puerto Rico or Guam that thinks the GIANTS wouldn't have made a football game of it against the Bucs [even though we might have lost in the end--but you guys were PATHETIC].
I will be happy to bet you 100 American that we will go farther next year than you (and by that I mean in total standings if both teams do not make the playoffs or how far they go in the playoffs if both teams make it).
The only slight modification I would make, is that in a perfect world we would let Fassel prepare the team for a game (and even coach them in the first half) and then have another coach come in (call him the Gameday Coach) and lead the team after that.
I'd imagine the personel they have on kick coverage is athletically adequate; they just don't know what they're doing out there. A competent ST coach would set it straight. Considering the number of close games the G-Men lost this year, I'd estimate that getting their ST in order would give them at least 3 more wins in the standings.
Speaking of incompetent fools who need firing, how about the NFL getting rid of these senior citizens officials who don't even know the basic rules. It destroys the intergrity of the game, as well as much of the enjoyment of watching.
B.S. Either the Titans or Raiders could win this. No one has a lock on it. The spreads are pointless. What was the spread on Miami vs. Ohio in the Fiesta bowl? 13 points favoring Miami? Who won that?
I know. I was betting that Timesink wasn't from Dallas-Ft Worth. But I think my point is valid. What with all of the Niners bashing on this thread, and the Niners only have five Super Bowl victories (and a 100% winning percentage). Some of these FReepers were buggin me. :O)
Don't the better teams usually win? Am I missing something?
Agreed. And that's the same New York media that over-hyped him and the Jets in the first place.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
I Love that quote!
No it wasn't sad, but it was implied. I was banking that Timesink didn't hail from Dallas.
Life has to go on.
I was not attempting to create an original thought/argument. I was attempting to clearly show the one major flaw of your "argument": by only changing a few words here and there, one could defend his team quite easily without saying anything relevant.
If you agreed with me at the time, as a stand-up guy, you would have thanked me for congratulating you on the win and acknowledged the possibility that you VERY WELL might have left it all on that field and had nothing left for the Bucs. But you DID NOT. What I said was prescient (look it up) [I looked it up the first time you said it, in a previous post] and on target. You did not acknowledge the congrats OR the prediction.
It was very nice of you to congratulate me on my team's win. Being somewhat new to FR, I suppose, is the only reason why I did not realize that I should properly acknowlege every compliment that comes my way. As far as the prediction, I honestly think that it didn't take much to prophesize a possible Niners defeat due to "leaving it all on the field" on the Giants game.
BTW, my trusty Fresno Bee came through. On the top of page D4 of the January 6, 2003 sports section, Dave Goldberg of the Associated Press looks at the divisional matchups. This is straight from the text:
San Francisco (12-5) at Tampa Bay (12-4):
It's hard to see the 49ers getting enough energy and emotion back to test the bruising Buccaneers defense after all they used in the crazy comeback against the Giants.
But there's also no sure thing in the league this season--as was proven in three of the four games this weekend.
As Jeff Garcia showed against the Giants, he can drive any defense crazy by slipping in and out of the pocket, scrambling and finding open receivers.
Tampa Bay is rested and should have Brad Johnson back at quarterback.
The Buccaneers will need him, even against the 49ers as alternate choices Rob Johnson and Shaun King typically equate to no offense. <<END OF PREVIEW>> (I rest my case)
See my response above to your last statement for the first part of your sentence... now as far as the Lil' Giants making it a game: the "what-ifs" can go on forever. We earned the right to play Tampa Bay and its top-ranked defensive unit. You didn't. Period, end of story, adios.
I will be happy to bet you 100 American that we will go farther next year than you (and by that I mean in total standings if both teams do not make the playoffs or how far they go in the playoffs if both teams make it).
In fairness to both of us, I would respectfully submit that this wager be placed at the end of the preseason, when both of us have been able to weigh our respective teams' offseason successes/losses (i.e., knowing which coach we have might be helpful). Fair?
