Please Sign Petition for Missing Adult Alert System

This is the first time I've started a thread, (after 2+ years here) but I'm proud to do it and hope I don't mess it up.

Many of you may remember a thread posted in November, "Missing Adult, Help Needed, Crime in Progress?" It was a plea for help from the sister of Alice Donovan, 44, of Galivants Ferry, S.C. who was kidnapped and her car stolen from a Walmart parking lot by two escaped convicts. It was originally posted by Alice's sister on Timebomb 2000 and then posted here just hours after it happened, before LE was involved and days before the media picked up the story.

Later on, LE and the media were actually reading the thread.

The thread began as one of prayers, hope and trying to get information, to one of sadness and grief as weeks went by and reality set in. Then came anger when the kidnappers were caught but refused to reveal Alice's whereabouts.

The people on the thread are awesome. One has actually participated in the search for Alice and attended the prayer vigil in S.C. Another created a detailed timeline to try to determine Alice's whereabouts. Many have gathered numerous articles and gathered information missing persons organizations and other sources. Most importantly, countless prayers and words of comfort have been offered to Alice's family. And just a few days ago, Alice's sister, Prairie Lady 2 joined us.

Our grief has, finally, turned to activism. We believe the time has come for an adult alert system similar to the Amber Alerts for children. While we know adults are legally free to make their own decisions, many go missing everyday not by their own choice. We feel there should be an alert system of some kind in place for adults in jeopardy. Forty-eight hours is too long to wait to be officially declared "missing".

This is a huge undertaking and the effort could take some time. Gathering support is the first, important step. If you agree with the petition, will you help us and sign it?

Thanks so much.

I remember the original alert. I am so sorry that your family had to go through this.

I have always wondered why children's lives are more valued than adult's lives. I believe that we do need a system to assist in finding a kidnapped person no matter what their age.

Thanks for all your work, valleygal. I've had this thread bookmarked since the beginning and visited from time to time as a lurker. My heart just breaks and goes out to Alice's and Samantha's families.

I signed the petition.

Thank you. I thought they would automatically underline, but didn't. As you can see, I usually need lots of help on the computer. Don't know where I'd be without the hubby and the kids.

They would have posted as a link had you not used any HTML code anywere in your post, but you did. Thus you need to code the links in with HTML code since you had used HTML code in other parts of your posted article...

It maybe good if you can link your petition request to some of the threads you are on plus maybe get some of the people to come over here and ping people to this one for you if they have a ping list.....
