That's right, I'm eating for FReedom. And I need your help.

I know, the FReep-a-thon is over, and was a huge success. I extend my personal gratitude to everyone that contributed to help keep the lights on here at Free Republic. You are a force to be reconned with.

Now, here's the deal: I have been doing research into the funding of the leftist extremist organizations (such as ANSWER) that have been supporting and even organizing the anti-war and pro-terrorist efforts here. One thing is certain - they have more than enough funding to 'keep the lights on'. In fact, they have thousands more at their disposal, to use to cram their socialist agendas down our throats.

If you're serious about winning the war against these communist SOB's, you have to understand that we need the same. There is no doubt that Free Republic has been the BIGGEST factor in turning the tide in our favor. But in order to keep it there, no, in order to move it forward, our favorite hang out on the web must be able to do more than keep the lights on.

It is up to us to provide the resources for Free Republic to become the greatest Conservative website on the 'Net. We need to be able to not only keep the lights on here at FR, but we need to be able to have resources at our disposal to stop the tide of anti-war, pro-terrorist groups such as ANSWER. And it can be done.

Here's where I come in. I am on a personal mission to see to it that the funding for FR doesn't just 'keep the lights on'. To that end, I will be doing something weird, strange, out of the ordinary or just plain crazy every fundraisiing quarter to help the effort.

For my "first trick", I am eating. Not just anything, though. I will be eating mussels for pledges this Feb. 8, 2003 at a local Chinese buffet. This is not the first time I have done this. The last time, I ate 75, on a dare (and for the cost of me & my family's dinner).

This time, I am shooting for 100. Here's where you come in. I am asking that you pledge any amount you feel comfortable with for each mussel I am able to eat. So far, pledges total about $10.85/mussel, which means that if I reach my goal, $1,085.00 will be going to Free Republic.

The pledges have ranged from .10 up to $2.00 per mussel, so feel free to pledge what you can afford. If that's a penny, so be it. If it's a dollar or more, that's good too. Whatever you pledge, just pledge it.

After I have completed my 'stunt', I will be posting pics here on FR of the event. Colorado FReepers are encouraged to attend, as I will need someone to officiate and verify the final results. The event will take place at the Grand China restaurant on 28 Road & North Avenue in Grand Junction, CO, at 1300 hours on February 8, 2003. Later that night, gathered FReepers are invited to attend the official FReeping of "Bowling for Columbine", which will be show that day at the Avalon theater.

Pledges will be notified of the results, and asked to send their total amounts directly to Jim.

fyi bump. I found the BEST seafood restaurant in town the other night! They aren't high dollar like my very favorite place, but they're owned by the same group and the fish is fresh and it's the real deal. They're open at lunch too.

You have to read the chart again. It says 150 calories per 3 oz of mussels. They're about an oz each or less. So 100 mussels is only enough to kill him slowly. He should be dead about a week later, on Valentines Day. If he owes you money you better get it now.
