VOTE FOR LIBERTY -- MOORE-BELL
Fiedor Report On the News #301 ^ | 2-9-03 | Doug Fiedor

Posted on 02/08/2003 10:23:49 AM PST by forest

For those of us around the country who love liberty, there is an important political campaign this year that deserves our attention. Two well experienced candidates are not only very liberty-minded, they are also very willing and able to pare a state government down to a lean, mean, efficient machine that will be a great example to all of what a properly run state government should be. Which means, they not only deserve our attention, but also any help we may be able to offer.

There has not been a Republican governor in Kentucky since Louie Nunn, over 30 years ago. It shows, too. While the Democrats held both houses of the General Assembly and the Governor's Mansion, they grew government every year. Which means, Democrats also increased taxes every year and sent forth more bureaucrats to usurp the liberty of the people of Kentucky. So, today, the people of Kentucky find themselves taxed on anything bureaucrats could conceive of taxing and many of the sections in regulations controlling every little thing in life are themselves controlled by a series of other regulations, often three or four deep.

Obviously, it is time for some changes in Kentucky's State government. Republicans took the Senate a while back and that has offered some protection of liberty and against even higher taxes. But, the Senate can't do everything by itself. Much more is needed.

Now, help is available. Well, help is available if we decide to demand it, welcome it and work to get it into the Governor's Mansion, that is.

Chances are good that Kentucky will elect a Republican governor this year. So, it is time the people decide exactly what they want in the new governor. Next May comes the Republican primary election for Kentucky governor. There are already choices.

One current Republican candidate is only slightly better then a Democrat. Another represents the country club set and would do little or nothing to lower taxes. Neither would do much, if anything, to support and protect the individual liberty of the people of Kentucky. Neither have yet to start making an argument as to why they should have the job.

Now comes the Virgil Moore and Don Bell team. Senator Virgil Moore wants to be Kentucky's next governor and, unlike others, he knows exactly why. Towards that end, Moore picked retired career Secret Service agent Don Bell, a strong liberty minded Constitutionalist, as a running mate. What does that mean to the average voter of Kentucky? A lot, if we think about it for a moment.

The most outward significance of a Moore-Bell ticket -- what definitely separates them from the pack -- is that both men vow to support the individual rights, freedoms and liberties of all people of Kentucky equally. They also know that the current Commonwealth government is an overgrown leviathan that often violates many rights and freedoms of the people of Kentucky. And, both men promise to work to correct that.

We expect that at least one other Republican candidate for governor would also reduce taxes a little and help somewhat by rearranging the overbearing regulatory bureaucracy. And sure, one of the slates might also help a little to protect things like property and gun rights.

But, more is needed. Virgil Moore, in this case.

The Moore-Bell team brings to the table a package deal. Protecting the rights and liberty of all individual citizens encompasses property and gun rights, of course. But it also includes hundreds of other ways Frankfort has been nit-picking away at the liberty of the people. Which means, when we examine the whole package of rights and liberties now being truncated by government, the Moore-Bell ticket offers a much more complete, all-around deal for the people of Kentucky.

Which also means that everyone throughout our country who love their own personal freedom -- and wish to ensure that their children and grandchildren will live a lifestyle in which their rights and liberties are protected -- should support the team of Virgil Moore for Governor and Don Bell for Lt. Governor. Else, as many of us know, the Commonwealth government will continue growing and usurping the rights of the people.

Our problem, then, is simple: The Republican status quo is mostly divided between the other candidates for governor. And, it is this mainline, country club Republican set who have the big bucks to offer candidates who will maintain the status quo. Lucky for us, though, they cannot control how the folks of Kentucky vote.

For those of us who support Liberty, the marching orders are clear. The Moore-Bell team needs our help. Sure, we should throw some bucks into their campaign pot. That will certainly help. It will not be enough, though. We must also volunteer a little time to assist the campaign so that others will know the Moore-Bell team will support all of our personal rights and liberties. Then, we must ensure that our friends in Kentucky actually get to the polls to cast that ballot.

No one needs to make a career out of this, of course. But, if all liberty-loving citizens in and outside of the Commonwealth invest a couple bucks and/or a little effort in the Moore-Bell campaign, the immediate impact on the freedom of the people of Kentucky -- and because of example, later in other states -- could be significant.

One in a row does not make a trend, of course. But, for those of us who would like to start a liberty trend in government, we have to do the best we can to support the first few liberty candidates running and help get that trend snowballing.

Or, we can just sit back and watch government (and taxes) grow -- slowed a little under a mainline Republican lead, to be sure; but still grow.

Well, good luck with your outsider campaign for governor and lieutenant governor. The last "outsider" who tried to win in KY was a fellow named Ronald Reagan. He was defeated there by Gerald Rudolph Ford, Jr., in 1976. KY Republicans usually take their "orders from headquarters" and do as they are told. They rarely upset the applecart.

I do like Senator Moore's proposals for reform of the tax system, especially lowering that economy-killing tax on trucking.

Does KY still have an "intangible" tax on out-of-state investments? How can they make sure this is collected? They tried to collect this tax from me even after I moved from KY to TX in 1988. People in KY will tax you out of the state. That's what they did to Daniel Boone in a sense -- took away his land claims.

I attended the GOP state Lincoln Day dinner tonight with our liberty-minded candidate.

Virgil Moore gave a very inspiring speech to a large crowd.

The next three months are critical as they will determine who will be the next governor of Kentucky, republican or democrat. The division of the democrats from Patton's problems will be hard for them to overcome, but not impossible. Whoever the republicans elect in May must have the ability to get democrat votes or we will end up with Ben Chandler as the governor, and if you think are rights are in jeopardy now, you ain't seen nothing.

Hands down, Virgil Moore/Don Bell is the Constitutional ticket for Kentucky in the May primaries. If you are a Republican, your family members are Republicans, your friends and co-workers are Republicans, you all need to get out and vote for Virgil Moore/Don Bell on May 20, 2003.

If you are not a Republcian, you can still give Virgil your time and/or money. I stopped by the Hurstbourne Hotel to speak with some friends before the Kentucky State Lincoln Dinner, but I didn't stay. I couldn't see giving $100 - $120 (for dinner for two) to the RPK. The Party establishment is not going to give any money to Virgil Moore and his efforts. That is money that is much better spent in a contribution to the Virgil Moore/Don Bell campaign.

I admire and respect Virgil Moore. He is a gentleman of the old school and could be a great Gorvernor of Kentucky. Sadly, he does not have the name recognition or the power base to get to the Frankfort office.

Like him or not, Fletcher is the candidate who can win. Republicans replicate the stupid party if they don't get behind this guy and get a REPUBLICAN elected Governor of KY.

If you are correct, then we will be encumbered with another socialist Democrat governor for the next term.

Give the voters a choice of a moderate-to-liberal Republican or, a Democrat........, they will vote for the real socialist, that being the Democrat.

Kentuckians are still 2/1 Democrat in voter registration; however, they see themselves as mostly pro-gun pro-life conservative.

The Democrat's candidate will also be declared a "conservative".

This is where you need to give the people a clear choice.

The other GOP candidates have a record of legislating away our liberties.

Ernie has weak ranking from property rights groups and gun groups.

Ernie voted for taxes many times as a state rep and as a congressman. Ernie along with some Democrats, promoted SB343, the law that ran the insurance companies out of Kentucky and drove up rates.

This is only some of the reasons why liberty-minded Virgil Moore, is the only GOP candidate that can prevail in November.
