Where are the freepers on this story?? Vandalism is OK and seen as "free speach" by the town of La Habra, CA.
TOPICS: Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS: lahabra; vandalism
Fox has been reporting about a 911 display that was destroyed by vandals. It also seems that the vandals are known, and the police say it is cool with them, just a free speach thing.

I wonder if the property owners could file some kind of a civil rights lawsuit against the Chief of Police.

You can't trash someone's campaign yard sign without getting busted. How come it's 'free speech' when trashing a memorial on a privately owned fence is? Which way does the local governmet lean in that part of Kalifornia?...I think I answered my own question.

John Rees is the Police Captain in La Habra who erroneously asserted that destruction of property by vandals is no different than the expression of free speech exercised by the people who built and displayed the memorial to the victims of 911. He's a police officer and yet he has no clue about the laws he's sworn to enforce.
Yesterday I checked out La Habra's website, but unfortunately I found only FAX and Tel numbers, not email. However, if anybody wants to FAX these bozos and remind them of the law in this country, just follow the link.

Where are the freepers on this story??All over it.
OXENinFLA posted the original story yesterday from the Whittier Daily News and it became a national story right here at FR. WorldNetDaily and Rush had it by yesterday afternoon, and last night it was discussed on Hannity and Colmes. The La Habra cops have received hundreds of emails and phone calls, and are in frenzied damage control mode. At least one arrest has now been made. We have a freeper in regular contact with the victims, and I was able to reach author Debbie Pfeiffer Trunnell to clarify a point or two.
Anything else we can do for you?

Here is a similar story in the New York Post 3/12/03......
Fiend desecrates Sept. 11th. memorial.
Over the weekend someone stole more than 30 photographs fixed to the exterior wall of the courthouse.
A display that has been up since the tragedy honoring three supreme court officers who died saving lives on 9/11.

Not to worry.
Local Los Angeles media is all over this story/event.
I saw a good report of KCAL Channel 9 (now also owned by our local Channel 2 CBS
station).
They did a good coverage, including the owner of the business who said that
while he didn't like the idea of people burning/desecrating US flags,
he accepted it...
BUT...these pukes should be punished for coming onto his private property and doing
this damage.
Southern California may be part of "The Land Of Fruits And Nuts"...but there is a sizeable
quiet sector of "middle Americans", as well as pro-American immigrants
(e.g., the Vietnamese contingent in Orange County).
Don't worry, the story is getting full coverage...

My sister and her daughter live in La Habra. I have to wonder, if someone went onto her property and vandalized it, would the La Habra police view it as an act of free speech?
If we adopt the attitude of the Chief of Police then graffiti is not a crime either. So, the next time some thug defaces your wall rejoice, it is not vandalism. It is a free citizen exercising his first amendment rights.

Fyi: La Habra is know to the locals as "Guadal-La-Habra." In other words it has more than its share of gang violence in addition to a certain "south-of-the-border" atmosphere.

Good news. The owner is going to rebuild it bigger and better than ever. He should also get a pit bull wrapped in an American flag as part of the new memorial. It was apparently a drug addicted mother and her two drug addicted sons that did it.
