Six Gilbert High School students were taken into police custody after authorities discovered a written plan to "kill everybody except our friends" on campus and then commit suicide, police disclosed Wednesday.

The six made detailed plans to lace the school with explosives and shoot their classmates, police said after the alleged plot came to light Tuesday when a teacher confiscated a letter from one of the students, four girls and two boys, that referred to the plot.

It seems they didn't have weapons or explosives.
This was listed in the "Local" section (B section).
I think that it deserved the front page.

Don't be that way, the school system and other students abused them to the point where they wanted to fight back.

I don't know anything about this stuff.
Maybe someone else does.
I'll see what I can find out.

LOL

I am unamused at how kids get to where they will do anything for attention (except work) and so decide to dress up like freaks and disrupt school discipline. Then when they get the very attention they asked for by their dress and behavior, they don't like it because it is as negative as they are, and they get singled out for derision because no one can respect them. So they use the excuse they were "picked on" when getting caught doing something stupid.

(sarcasm) I'm sure you also blame rape victims for being raped.

I agree that this is front page stuff. I have a friend with a child in that school district. I believe it is a large school in an area that is growing very rapidly. These kids and their parents are responsible for their actions and should be tried as adults and jailed for a long time, but I also fault school districts for establishing these huge high schools (enrollment 2953 per Gilbert High's website) that get real clickish and encourage potential losers to congregate in large groups/gangs.

You are so right. All parties have some responsibility.

From piasa: What are the origins of this gothic bullscat, anyway?

Do you (ravinson) know much about this gothic stuff?

I hope you're not serious about saying the goth kids are victims, because they are not. Pointing out that a certain rape victim was stupid for stripping down to anothing more than a pair of crotchles panties and walking through central park at 2 AM is legitimate - and accurate- commentary about one naive individual's incredible stupidity; such a comment does not justify rape but it does address the fact that the victim's lack of common sense made her an easier victim than if she had been clothed and carrying a handgun during less lonely times of the day.

Smearing fat, bloodbait and hamburger on your body and strolling into a lion cage would be stupid. That's a fact. It won't make you a man-eating lion but it will make you tastier and enticing than you would otherwise be.

Taking a homeless stranger into your house is stupid and endangers your kids. That's a fact. A parent's naivety almost cost one couple their daughter recently. The parent's weren't to blame for kidnapping but they certainly weren't wise, and they neglected their responsibilities as parents by failing to make a reasonable judgement based on appearances and other clues. That's a fact. Their stupidity is no excuse for the actions of the kidnapper, but the fact remains that the parents were stupid.

Leaving your car doors unlocked and your checkbook on the front seat is stupid. It won't make you a thief but it will probably make you a bit poorer. That's a fact.

Going out of your way to dress repulsively, acting rude in class, ignoring the authority of teachers and staff at schools to get attention is stupid and disrespectful to everyone around you. Pointing out that people won't react positively to such behavior and the attention may turn out to be unpleasant is simply a matter of common sense. It won't make you a victim, nor will it force you to join a conspiracy to murder but it may make you an object of justifiable scorn.

Unlike some folks, I have no trouble distinguishing the difference between a criminal and the victim, and make no excuses to justify the motivations or actions of a criminal. Being "picked on" may be unpleasant or seem unjust, but it is no justification for murder, nor even a reason to consider murder.

Not really. There doesn't seem to be very much of that around here, but I did see some high school aged goths hanging out late at night in a restaurant in Denver a couple of years ago. Their appearance made it very clear that they were a gang of social outcasts.

You lack total common sense.

Your logic in dress codes is right in line with Muslim fanatics.

I doubt you have ever heard the saying; Those who do not learn from history are doom to repeat it.

You lack any real depth in how these students came to want to achieve their motives. All you want to do is lock those kids up, sweep this under the rug and forget about it. And that type of thinking is exactly the reason why this keeps happening again and again.

I want to know what drove these kids to crack-up, go postal.

Since the problem deals with the schools, the cause will be found in the schools.

Was is the self-hating political correctness taught in schools these day?

Was is teachers and the school system as a whole that singled them out for abuse?

Was is the collective student body, which encourages some students to be forcibly outcast and for them to be abused, both verbally and physically?

Or is it a combination of all three of these reasons?

I want to know so it can be fixed and to insure it does not happen again.

Most students these days experience more stress in schools than most adults receive in their time at work. I'm surprised more students haven't cracked-up.

Now who is the worse monster; the monster or the ones who makes these students into monsters?

I for one think the people who makes these students into monsters are the worse ones, yet they are the ones who are NEVER punished for their crimes.
