RNC Chairman Racicot Decries Daschle's Eve of War Attack on President

WASHINGTON - Marc Racicot, Chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), today issued the following statement in response to Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD), who on the eve of war attempted to gain partisan advantage by blaming President Bush for potential war casualties:

“As President Bush, our Commander in Chief, addresses the grave and serious threats we face at home and abroad, it is disheartening and shameful for Senator Daschle, who has previously advocated and authorized the use of force in Iraq, to now blame America first. I urge all Americans to reject such divisive and brazen political posturing.”

The following is the statement by Senator Tom Daschle that Chairman Racicot is calling him on:

SENATOR TOM DASCHLE: “I’m Saddened, Saddened That This President Failed So Miserably At Diplomacy That We’re Now Forced To War. Saddened That We Have To Give Up One Life Because This President Couldn’t Create The Kind Of Diplomatic Effort That Was So Critical For Our Country.” (Senator Tom Daschle, Remarks At International Association Of Firefighters Conference, 3/17/03)

Text of email that I sent (as a SD voter):

Senator Daschle-
I had thought that my opinion of you could not be dropped any lower than it was after your previous ill-informed tirades, your complete and total obstruction of any action taken by MY President, and your hypocritical actions- saying one thing for the DC crowd and another back here in South Dakota. I was wrong.

Your disgusting attack on MY President yesterday, just as our troops are preparing to engage the enemy, was one of the worst things I have ever witnessed.

the diplomacy failed because of the French, and all responsibility for this war sits in the lap of Saddam Hussein. This war is not something that we rushed into- how can you say that 12 years worth of last chances is failed diplomacy on the part of the US?

Perhaps if your idol, Mr. Clinton, had been more interested in taking care of the problems that were present when he was in the office (instead of lobbing a few missiles when he needed to distract the country from his reprehensible behavior) Mr. Bush would not have this mess to deal with. If I recall correctly, you fully supported that approach when it was used.

In the future, please stand aside and let the adults do what they need to do. If you must whine, do so in private so that you quit causing the fine people of our state to be ashamed of their Senator.

Sincerely,
Joshua M. Kolakowski

Just sent them a letter to the editor regarding Daschle's remarks in '98 supporting regime change and admitting diplomacy had failed at that time. Expose him for the hypocrite he is. I just wish Ari today had read these comments!

I e-mailed Dass-hole last night with a message almost word for word the same as yours. I was so angry my hands were shaking as I typed!
My family is from South Dakota. My brother is in the Army Reserve and was called-up a month ago. I have been angry with Dass-hole before, but never this angry. I will make it my personal mission to do anything I can to disrupt his re-election plans!

Here's what Ijsut sent in on his web-form:

You are a disgrace, Mr. Daschle, and should step down from your post as Minority Leader immediately. While our brave military members are about to put their lives on the line for our freedom, the least you could do would be to keep your mouth shut if you can't find it in yourself to be supportive of your Commander-in-chief.

My letter to Mr. Daschle:

To the Honorable Mr. Daschle,

As the spouse of a servicemember who is currently serving in Qatar, I am appalled by your recent condemnation of President Bush. The responsibility of this war should fully be placed on Saddam Hussein. After the first Gulf War, he himself agreed to disarm in lieu of stepping down from power. Yet, after twelve years of diplomacy, he has not complied with UN mandates.

As well, the UN itself must accept responsibility for Saddam's reluctance to submit to the world's demands. Countries like France and Germany, who put forth empty promises of retaliation for noncompliance, only serve to fuel a dictator such as Hussein by leading him to believe consequences for his choices will never be carried out.

Again, I am greatly disgusted at your assessment of the situation. At a time when the UN's diplomacy has failed, you are following the lead of France and Germany and putting our troops at further risk by openly spouting such twisted logic. Such statements serve only to bolster Hussein's defiance and place our faithful servicemembers in greater danger.

There is one person solely responsible for this conflict, and that is Saddam Hussein. Please stop the political posturing and put our nation and military forces ahead of your own ambitions.

Won't happen because his (Daschle's) comment doesn't involve a minority.

< shrug > It's the truth.

Ditto everything you said, Pardon Me. I was shaking this morning, myself, with anger. I have a step-son overseas in harm's way and we deserve better than this. I've told Daschle's office that when I called, but I want to see his feet held to the fire. How dare he?

i send him weekly notes on how despicable he is - and i end each note by asking him to hurry up and die so i can piss on his grave - oddly enough he hasn't responded back - but most importantly he refuses to honor my request - though i do plan on waiting the little pissant out

Another approach:

Dear Senator Frist,

I would address this to your colleague, Senator Daschle, if I thought he would even be made aware of it, but he does not acknowledge or respond to communications from anyone whose vote he cannot obtain.

I am shocked, saddened, and embarassed that this small-minded man actually represents even a small part of this great country. His recent comments about the President were no less than shameful, and I believe that a motion of censure for his recent intemperate remarks to the AFSCME is fully justified and in order.

I find it outrageous that at this particular, perilous time, he chooses to provide aid and comfort to our enemies, and actually contributes to the atmosphere of equivocation and appeasement that leads our adversary to believe that he can continue to avoid the consequences of his defiance.

I believe that a formal rebuke from the Senate is appropriate, along with a new resolution of support for our troops, our allies in this military effort, and for the President who has faced the situation and taken the appropriate action.

I hope you will sponsor both of these actions, because I believe that both are necessary. And since Mr. Daschle ignores the people that he insults so blithely, I hope you will personally convey to him my antipathy and disgust. I assure you that both are widely shared.
