This is not a troll. This was reproduced, as is, from the above URL, attributed to one Daniel Quinn, an Austin-based author whose works include Ishmael and The Story of B.

I posted this because this is obvious twaddle from someone who hates his own country, and has a highly questionable philosophy regarding the world and "saving it." Apparently he believes if we grow less food, there will be less people.

But I digress.

I wanted to see what kind of counterpoint could be produced from all you Freepers out there.

Thanks in advance!

There is nothing quite as odious as a collection of selective statistics (some of which, btw, are in error).

Why waste time responding in detail to this govno?

This is the one that most stuck out in my mind - because it is blatantly false:

"17. Q: How many casualties did the Iraqi military inflict on the western forces during the Gulf War ?

A: 0"

Random trivia questions. Some of it is a load of crap, like where did they come up with Israel having 400 nukes?

Daniel Quinn is a misanthropic hippie idiot who likes gorillas better than human beings. Who cares what he thinks?

>>2. Q: What percentage of the world's wealth does the U.S. have?

A: 50%<<

Debunked by Peruvian economist Hernando de Soto. The rest of the world has a great deal of wealth but can't use it as collateral for economic development like building factories because they don't have the rule of law. All they can do is preserve it in fixed assets like land and precious metals.

>>10. Q: Did Iraq develop these chemical & biological weapons on their own?

A: No, the materials and technology were supplied by the US government, along with Britain and private corporations.<<

This has been debunked by a number of sources, most recently by New York Times writer Susan Miller in her recent book, "Germs: Biological Weapons and America's Secret War."

Iraq obtained the technology and materials covertly, pretending it was being used for legitimate scientific research. Once the US realized what was going on, the transfers of this technology was outlawed. Admittedly, should have outlawed it sooner, but definitely didn't give it willingly.

A lot of these numbers are suspect, but this is a blatant lie.

"39. Q: In 1998 how much of Iraq's post 1991 capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction did the UN weapons inspectors claim to have discovered and dismantled?

A: 90%"

How do they calculate how much they didn't discover????? And since this dude also knows that Iraq still has WMD because Iraq has "10%" left and the US "willing" gave them anthrax, that means Iraq is in material breach. It took a grand total of 9 weapons inspectors to disarm South Africa. WHY IN THE HECK DO WE NEED HUNDREDS OF INSPECTORS AND 12 YEARS TO DISARM IRAQ?

And the nukes used by the US STOPPED a war, it didn't start one.

of selective statistics (some of which, btw, are in error)

Not really in error, because there was never any attempt to ffind out what the actual numbers are. Like those three million homeless. It is just a number that sounded good and would make the desired point.

I don't have to make the decision to go to war against Iraq, and I'm not qualified to do it. Neither does the supercilious Mr. Quinn. The President has more comprehensive information than Mr. Quinn ever will have. And the President is in a far better position than Mr. Quinn ever could to be able to make decisions regarding the security of the Western world.

Mr. Quinn is known to speak and write his drivel against Western civilization, characterizing us as "takers." Not builders, engineers, philosophers, and counselors. Mr. Quinn emphatically wants to "go over the wall," to escape civilization. Yet he never seems to leave.

The man is really operating from an anti-humanity perspective, IMHO. Mr. Quinn is not so smart as he thinks, his writing is rather indirect, and the net result is much more heat than light.

Quinn has simply fabricated the "statistics" used in this failed attempt at justifying the left's support for the genocidal Hussein regime. Of course, they will deny they support Saddam, when confronted with accurate statistics that reveal the depths of the Iraqi's tyrants bloody despotism, and their own blatant, knowing complicity.

17. Q: How many casualties did the Iraqi military inflict on the western forces during the Gulf War ?

A: 0

This is lie. There was a total of 622 U.S. military casualties (146 killed and 476 wounded). Of the 146 U.S. military killed, 35 were killed by friendly fire. Of the 146 total U.S. military killed, 28 were killed in a Scud attack on Dharahn, and 14 crewmembers of an AC-130 were killed by an Iraqi surface to air missile. Six other Air Force pilots were killed in hostile fire, and six Navy pilots were killed in hostile fire.

Others were lost in helicopter shoot downs and a few ground forces were killed. See http://www.vfw.org/magazine/articles/pg.html

Basically, if you will willingly lie about something as serious as the deaths of U.S. military to hostile fire, you have no credibility on anything.

"Ishmael" is one of the worst books I have ever attempted to read. A partial description from amazon:

The narrator of this extraordinary tale is a man in search for truth. He answers an ad in a local newspaper from a teacher looking for serious pupils, only to find himself alone in an abandoned office with a full-grown gorilla who is nibbling delicately on a slender branch. "You are the teacher?" he asks incredulously. "I am the teacher," the gorilla replies. Ishmael is a creature of immense wisdom and he has a story to tell, one that no other human being has ever heard.
