The Hollywood Resistance Force was out in strength today Sunday, March 23, 2003.
Along with around three to five hundred other conservatives, the Los Angeles Chapter of the Free Republic Network made sure Michael Moore (or less) had to pass by fourteen hundred United States flags on the way in to receive his Oscar. Every leftist who sputtered nonsense from the podium, had to pass us by. We waved our flags and shouted Liberate Iraq, Free the Iraqis, L - A - P - D (a supportive chant for the Los Angeles Police Department officers on site) and other phrases sure to make leftists melt like a vampire in the presence of garlic.
Our local Vice-President and Public Relations Officer RonDog (Ron Smith) arranged this event, and did us proud. Ron teamed us up with Fit Aim Act, the Liberty Belles, and representatives from other organizations for which I'll be kicking myself in the morning for not remembering now. Ron will be by to supplement this report anyway. He'll be sure to credit everyone who participated.
Ted Hayes did an excellent job of fielding interviews from a conservative point of view. Ted is with Fit Aim Act, and knows his way around the public relations maze. His burden is homeless advocacy, but Ted is well grounded on many conservative issues and it's a pleasure to listen to him present his views. When you do, you'll find yourself saying "all right" or "Yes!" over and over again. You just can't help it.
Folks, this event was a public relations gold mine for our chapter. Every local media outlet seemed to be on site. BobJ arrived earlier than I did, so he can tell you the orgs he ran into. I say the Los Angeles Times people, several, and several radio stations. I turned on the Oscar coverage on E early this afternoon and there was BobJ standing next to Ted Hayes on the E-Channel. Bob, wearing his free republic hat, was a walking billboard for our cause. You can't buy coverage like that.
I am told that wire service photos already exist on the forum, showing our group at the Oscars. Excellent. After all, we were there to liberate Oscar!
We were one half block from the entrance to the Oscars. All limos passed our location. I saw at least one vehicle with nothing but thumbs up, headed towards the Oscars. Love it!
We made a number of new friends through this event. Other groups we networked with were great. Other individuals who were simply sick and tired of the leftists that seek to speak for us, and showed up on their own, were glad to find us there.
We had one special guest show up. I know you'll find it hard to believe, so did we. Look closely, you'll see who it is.
Yep, like I said, we were shocked too. He waved a flag, joined us in chants and was particularly good on one that said, "We support the President!" and took time to give us his private eMail, so he could join us on our next FReep.
Folks, we had an excellent time. Like other FReeps, we had dinner afterwards. There we discussed this event, and our plans for future activities. RonDog made a presentation on future plans. For the folks we'd met today, that knew nothing about FRee Republic before this, I gave a two or three minute overview of FRee Republic and Free Republic Network. When I mentioned there was a sight out there where between 750 and 1250 articles from around the world were posted every day, and explained that they would find other conservatives they could discuss issues with, they said, "Wow!" Yep, that about sums it up.
What a day. Thanks RonDog. Thanks Ted Hayes. Thanks Free Republic Network. You each did us proud.
More photos will follow. Some video clips will too.
Drop back in. It'll seem like you were there.
Those who attended today, Please add in your comments. I'd love to read them. FRee Republic and FRee Republic Network rock!
What was #89?LOL!
My post #89 was a GIANT (bandwidth-intensive) version of the image that I found on indymedia - (LAPD in riot gear with the fist-clenching lefties.)After Bob J re-posted a SMALLER version in his post #91, I asked the moderators to yank my hard-on-the-dialup-users version.
I think I saw a Big quote from Ron in this mornings LA Times...That you did.

So I finally start going through, page by page, the Oscar coverage in today's Slimes (that's right... still reading it so that you don't have to). And then I almost had a heart attack. The "E"/"Calendar Part 1" Section is dedicated to Oscar coverage, E1 starting it all off with a big pic of Best Actor winner Adrien Brody smooching presenter Halle Berry and the beginning of the story.Following it in to E2 and E3, there are a bunch of huge picture of various winners from the night, the top of each page prefaced with a huge bold quote. On the left side (heh, heh) is one quote:"Why do you come to the Academy Awards when the world is in such turmoil?Because art is important."Nicole Kidman, accepting the best actress awardOn the right side (in more ways than one ;^) is another quote:"If John Wayne was here, he'd be doing what we're doing. He'd be supporting the troops."Ron Smith, demonstrator at Hollywood and HighlandCONGRATULATIONS, RONDOG!!! You ROCK!!!CLICK HERE for the rest of the thread
Thank you, AnnaZ...
...for reading the L.A. Times - so that the REST of us do not have to. :o)BTW, this just in:
I've always heard that it's not about the size of your troop support, it's about what you can do with what you've got...
FWIW, I was NOT passing out flyers, and the quote that he attributes to Daniel Flores was from ME, but the REST of his report seems O.K.Ronnie Guyer, 60, of Chino, Calif., said he served in the Army in a Vietnam War battle depicted in the Mel Gibson movie "We Were Soldiers." The war, he said, "is our best defense against future terrorist attacks." Joining forces with the war supporters were several liberal groups that ordinarily would be at odds with the organizers. Ted Hayes, president of Justiceville USA, an advocate for homeless people, said the injustice in Iraq must be stopped.
"While I have my issues as a homeless advocate and being black, I have freedom and the right to protest my government," Hayes said. "Saddam and his regime are united in their mission to destroy us," he said. "George Bush is a cowboy and we need a cowboy now."
Ron Smith, 47, was passing out fliers among the tourists and trying to recruit people to his conservative organization called FIT-AIM-ACT.
The pro-war protesters won at least one convert: 18-year-old Daniel Flores, who had traveled from his home in San Jose to the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue to see the stars. After listening to the group's spiel, he stood with them and put their sticker on his T-shirt.
"I support the troops and Hollywood should, too," Flores said.
