AARON BROWN: We were talking about these forces that are coming into the region and whether they'll be there for a post war Iraq or whether they will be there to continue the war. This question of whether the war is on schedule or not seems to be dominating the news cycle these days. Is it on schedule? Are wars ever on schedule?

the headline catches the tone quite well ... all it needed was "doom-n-gloom alert" added.

May the Iraqis in this picture know freedom from Saddam and his death squads. May our brave soldiers liberate and bring medicine, food and hope for the people of Iraq.

truth. IIRC, the russian peasants DID welcome the germans as liberators initially, but the germans blew it by being even more brutal than the stalinists had been. had the germans been civil to the slavs, that winter in russia would not have ended operation barbarossa.

THIS is Brown's and Dickkey's goal:
THEY are one's presenting this image of America, then complaining that America has this image. (All the while cursing Fox for showing the broad truth.....)
What people in the United States maybe don't appreciate, although everyone has written stories about it and American television has talked about it, is the incredible divergence that exists now between what the rest of the world sees on its television screens and what the American audience is seeing, not so much CNN, but there are other American networks that make this sound like it's a football game and make it look like it's a video game.

From article:
Now there's just mounting anger. All this doom and gloom and mounting anger... Just so much psychological projection on the part of the liberals. They are simply describing their own angst disguised as war commentary.

Your headline is phonyI understoof that the headline wasn't a direct quote, but a (slightly) tongue-in-cheek summary of Dickey's Gloom n' Doom Report before I opened the thread.

I don't like creative headlines unless they are labeled as such, or obvious from the context. Your headline made it seem like a quote from Dickey. It wasn't. I agree. I really don't appreciate misleading headlines on Free Republic.
I wasted time searching through the transcript, looking for the part where Dickey said "It's Over, We've Already Lost In Iraq and Whole Arab World". That would have been a hell of a quote, and a leading contender for the 2003 Von Hoffman award. Instead all I found was the standard pessimism.

Did Aaron Brown nod off during the interview? He seems to be exhaused..for the last several years. Wouldn't an interview of Daschle by Brown be something? Who's head would hit the desk first?
BROWN: Disappointing. The clumsiness of the ...zzzz.... diplomacy. [little finger goes pensively to corner of mouth]
DASCHLE: Well Aaron, I'm saddened [looking down at desk, hands folded], and terribly, terribly disappointed at the failure... zzzz..., the clumsiness...

Sounds like Christopher Dickey ought to join Chris Matthews in putting his Mickey Mouse PJs on and climbing into bed, and sticking his head under the covers of his bomb-shelter/home.
To play it safe, somebody will have to fax him with a memo telling him when it's safe to come on out.

Yes, actually Stalin was on the right side against Hitler, who betrayed him. Also, the Nazi's were certainly not trying to liberate Russia.
The guy in this article needs to buck the f*ck up. Sheez, the one thing about this war that is making me ill is KNOWING that if we had to fight Hitler and the Japs with the current generation we'd be doomed. Thank God those in the Military are younger. People my age, the boomers, we should lay down in the streets and die of shame. Baby boomers suck. That's it, we do. I'm ashamed of my generation yet again.

WHat qualifies this Dick... I am sorry, Dickey, to make predictions about the future. It's hard to call poltical "science" a science capable of predictions, but he is not even that: he is a reporter. Perhaps, he should shut up, pick up his tape recorder and go do his job.

A really good antidote to this crap is Ralph Peter's article in today's NY Post...read it...and relax.
The Iraqis, and the Arabs as a people, are blaming the US for their own inadequacies. Watch for what he said would happen when the Iraqis show their pleasure at post-war Iraq: they will be called lackeys of the US...as they rebuild and begin to dominate the ME because of a combination of democracy and capitalism.
