Gore Defends the Dixie Chicks
Launch ^

Posted on 04/01/2003 8:41:40 AM PST by RockSolid

(3/31/03, 7 a.m. ET) -- The Dixie Chicks controversy continues with the trio getting some support from former Vice President Al Gore. Gore spoke to a college audience last week on the subject of fewer companies owning more media outlets, and what he sees as the increasing lack of tolerance for opposing views.

According to the Tennessean, Gore used recent attacks on the Dixie Chicks that followed anti-war comments by Natalie Maines as an example. Gore told the audience, "They were made to feel un-American and risked economic retaliation because of what was said. Our democracy has taken a hit," Gore said. "Our best protection is free and open debate."

I bet he wouldn't be saying that if these Dixie Chickens announced to England how much they hate Clinton and his cowardly ways!

No one said they were not free to say and speak their mind, just like I am free to tell them to p_ss off!

Hmmmm, wasn't this the same Al Gore who was Vice President in an administration where people, publications and foundations who spoke critically of that administration found themselves being audited by the IRS. Was this not the same administration who had squads of "helpers" go through the crowd and squelch those who would voice disagreement. Did they not have a woman questioned for hours and her tax returns audited because she voiced her opionion "Clinton you suck" in public.

What the former Vice President and losing candidate for President means is that "free and open debate" is acceptable only if you agree with me! It is too soon for the tactics of the administration of which he was a part to be forgotten!

Does free and open discussion also include Trent Lott?

They had a free and open discussion.

They are free to say what they please and thanks to a courageous few Republicans in Dade County during the 2000 elections that prevented al gore from stealing the election, I am free to spend my money as I please.

So far as I am concerned, al gore is a theif of the air he breathes and the food he eats.

You know liberals just don't get it at all. Yes, everyone has a right to speak, thank God and the brave men and women who risked their lives so that we remain free, but, golly, Al, don't ya know that we don't have the right to be listened to, and if I don't want to listen to Dixie Chicks or you, I don't have to, nor do I have to buy their products or your contrived malarky.

And furthermore, it's not as if the leftists in this country don't try to shut down speech I like to hear. In fact they've been at it a lot longer and are so used to it they can't stand it when another shining voice rises above the fog and brings the sunshine in!

"I should be the one sitting in the White House right now, making the big decisions, making World history.
Instead, I'm reduced to defending a trio of talentless, two bit hookers.

Damned Electoral College..."
