SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- An American Airlines flight from Tokyo has been quarantined on the tarmac at San Jose's airport after four people on board complained of symptoms like those reported from the mysterious new illness spreading through Asia, airline and city health officials said.

Am I hearing this right? The passengers with symptoms are being removed. The rest are allowed to continue their flight? WTHell?

Nothing to see here people, move along. (the CDC answer to everything) No, that's a FReeper response to everything. There would be no quarantine if the CDC and other agencies didn't take this seriously.

"Practice one-way breathing -- exhaling only. The more you eliminate inhaling, the better your chances are to avoid SARS. Also start learning to breathe through your ears."
ROFLOL! The ears are better filtration than the NG95 masks. Here are the Marx brothers when you need them!

If the period of incubation of SARS is at least 2 days, nobody who caught in on the flight could have started exhibiting symptoms yet.

Slightly off topic, but just barely....,
... last year my husband boarded a well known airline ....and a lady boarded who was already sick....throwing up sick....(and the stewardess knew it)
She allowed the lady to take a seat...(next to my husband)...where the woman continued to barf into whatever was available, until they landed.
My husband wanted to come home & burn his clothes.....

The problem with a viral agent like SARS is that the standard preventive measures don't work at all . . .

"If the period of incubation of SARS is at least 2 days, nobody who caught in on the flight could have started exhibiting symptoms yet." I read in an article posted yesterday that the incubation period is 5-7 days.
Earlier, I read an article that stated, "up to 10 days." Who knows for sure?

Good point blam, we might be inundated with ill folks coming for the good medicine as their nation's hospitals are overwhelmed...only so many respirators available.
Shut the borders yesterday!

There would be no quarantine if the CDC and other agencies didn't take this seriously. That's exactly right. The fact that we are going into quarantine mode should raise a red flag. When was the last time we quarantined a US flight?

M.O.O.N. that spells SCARY.

As someone who is flying to San Fran in the next few weeks, this is NOT what I want to hear. Of course, it doesn't help that I have almost constant respiratory problems due to allergies. Blah.

I read recently that 10 days is now thought to be too short, and the new thought is up to 14 days. Sorry no link.

If the period of incubation of SARS is at least 2 days, nobody who caught in on the flight could have started exhibiting symptoms yet. It's entirely possible that we're seeing our first case of group hysteria. Someone coughs, some hypochondriac thinks he has SARS, and the rest is history.
How many false alarm anthrax scares did we go through? This may only be the start.
