In a closed air system, it seems this would be a problem.
Yup, the recirculated air can't be beat as a means of bacterial transmission. Some have argued the problem has gotten worse since the airlines banned smoking and hence cut back on the rate of air replenishment.
The airline industry needs this, at this time, like a hole in the head.

That's some fast acting bug to develope during a few hours flight. I can see the Tokyo passengers having it and trying to leave the country if they suspected they were exposed. However, the crew coming down with it... I dunno, what if they had already contracted it days before and now have passed it on to thousands of other passengers since then. Very scary. Isn't Canada quarranteening passengers from China or something?

I'm hearing things yesterday that we're not even allowing planes from the far east in.

"It is strange to me that nobody had problems before getting on the plane. Or if they did, they certainly shouldn't have flown." One way to be sure to get treatment in the US, huh?

One downside of no-smoking flights:
Airlines no longer use expensive air filtration, leading indirectly to.....
